Where do I have to go in Bedford to find if someone was married there? Could I look through the records myself? Also how much would it cost me? Any information and advice welcome.
Thanks

Was the marriage before or after 1.7.1837

Hello HoppShill,
Yes the date would be most useful.
Bedfordshire Marriage registers from 1812 onwards are on microfiche at the Bedford Archives at County Hall Bedford, & also at the Luton main library.
From around 1580 to 1812 transcripts of marriages from the parish registers are held at Bedford town library, as well as Beds Archives & Luton library.
Bedfordshire marriages (1580 - 1812) are vitually all recorded on the IGI (via the LDS site)
If the marriage was more recent then I suggest you contact the Bedford Register Office where they maintain a list of marriages performed there in date order
Have you found the marriage index ? if it just says Bedford Registration District then you'll have to search though lots of separate parishes' records - unless you've some idea which part of Bedford or north Bedfordshire village they may have lived in.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not even sure the marriage actually took place. I am just assuming it was in Bedford and assuming it was around 1924. Thank you for the information. My best bet is to contact the Bedford Register Office.
Thanks again

Hi
I am just assuming it was in Bedford and assuming it was around 1924
Have you looked on freebmd? If it was around 1924 it may have been transcribed

Do the BMD indexes contain all records. Is there a chance that the marriage I am looking for has just not been added?
Thanks

Hi
Most marriages up to around 1928/29 are on freebmd. If it has not been transcribed - it will be on the full GRO index which is available at your nearest main library or online with an Ancestry subscription. It is also available on the paysite www.findmypast.com
Just checking - you do mean 1924 and not 1824??

1924 and 1925 are complete on FreeBMD but 1923 and 1926 aren't. See
