Hi
I am not a beginner to family history but I am having problems using Ancestry.co.uk in the past I've been able to search births and when available the mothers maiden name would also appear, now it seems though I can no longer search births unless I search them on the free bmd; this doesn't give me that info.
I know there use to be another birth searching resource but I can't find it??
Can anyone help? I really would like to find a maiden name for someone.
Many thanks.

Hi.
Birth records do not give mothers maiden name before 1911.

Ahhhh!! Is it 1911? I thought it was a few years prior to that!
The name I have is Edith Lloyd, born approx. 1909, Prescot, Lancashire, father Evan Lloyd, mother Kate Lloyd (nee Davies - married 1904) I have found 3 options for Edith but was hoping on the maiden name to eliminate the other 2! I think it could be Edith Doreen Lloyd B: 1909 but can't be sure!
Thanks for your help though!!

Hi
Mothers maiden names are listed in some cases prior to 1911 on sites such as http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/
It doesn't help with Edith though :'(

You could always send for the certificate from the local registrars office (NOT THE GRO at Southport as they will charge) and specify the parents if it's the wrong one they will refund in full
