on www.freebmd.org.uk their marriage..
DEC QTR 1919 in Bucklow.. Albert Edward Anderson to Sarah Buckley Ref No 8a 406
official cert of marriage...I would have thought if this marriage was bigamous it would be taken out of the register records as it was illegal....in my opinion it wasn`t bigamous...let me see if I can find out if bigamous records are deleted...allan ???

Yvonne,
Can you tell us please what is the source of the info about the marriage being bigamous?

Records of bigamous marriages are not deleted, so there is nothing odd about finding it in the registers.

I have just been on another genealogy site and have been informed that bigamous records are NOT deleted ....but...if you request the certificate the GRO will NOT send you the cert, but they don`t give a reason why.....so presumably if you send for it and it is refused ,this may confirm if it was bigamous....hope this helps...allan ;)

HI, I AM ALBERT EDWARD ANDERSON'S GRANDAUGHTER. HE MARRIED MY GRANDMOTHER (SARAH BUCKLEY) BIGAMOUSLY IN 1919 IN ALTRINCHAM, CHESHIRE. I HAVE A COPY OF THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, IN WHICH ALBERT CLAIMS TO BE 27 WHEN, IN FACT, HE WAS 22. MY GRANDPARENTS MARRIED LEGITIMATELY IN 1942. I UNDERSTAND THAT MY GRANDAD SERVED TIME IN PRISON, BUT I AM NOT SURE WHEN OR FOR HOW LONG.
CAN I ASK WHY YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT ALBERT EDWARD ANDERSON?
I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED IF ALBERT FATHERED ANY CHILDREN WITH HIS FIRST WIFE. BY PROCESS OF ELIMINATION, I THINK HIS FIRST WIFE COULD BE SARAH BANE AND THAT THEY MARRIED IN ST PANCRAS. I AM WAITING FOR THE MARRIAGE CERT TO CONFIRM.
I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT ALBERT LIED ABOUT HIS AGE WHEN HE JOINED THE RAILWAY IN 1911 - CLAIMING TO BE 16, WHEN HE WAS 14.
MY GRANDPARENTS HAD TWO CHILDREN, KATHLEEN (MY MUM) AND ALBERT, WHO WAS BORN IN 1920.
PLEASE GET BACK TO ME IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE INFO. THIS WAS A WELL KEPT FAMILY SECRET. MY MOTHER DID NOT KNOW ABOUT HER FATHER BEING A BIGAMIST UNTIL HE DIED IN 1978.

Hi Yvonne, Sue is my cousin! I was very surprised when I did a Google search and your post came up! I haven't made much headway yet, but I am keeping Sue in the loop. Once I get the first marriage certificate, it should make life a bit easier! Grandad would be turning in his grave if he knew he was on the worldwide web! Mind you, he might have enjoyed the notoriety :-)
Kind regards,
Debbie

Hello
I have found the following:-
Susan Anderson b 1945 Chatham (went to school with my sister)
Parents Albert Edward Anderson b 1920 Northwich, mother's maiden name Robinson married Phyllis Perkins 1944 Chatham
Albert Edward b 1897 possibly Woolwich died Chatham 1978 married Sarah Bane 1914 St Pancras then married Sarah Buckley 1919 Bucklow, and 1942 Chatham died 1983 Swale, Kent
Sarah Buckley married Herbert Buckley in 1916 Northwich.
Commonwealth War Graves Commission Herbet Buckley Flight Cadet died 1918.
Joyce Anderson b 1921 Northwich mother's maiden name Robinson.
Hope the above makes sense. So you both have the same grandfather.

Hi, yes to all, except you have the wrong Herbert Buckley. Private Herbert Buckley served in the Cheshire Regiment and was killed at Paschendaele in April 1918. He is mentioned on the Trafford War Dead website.
Sue and I are very close. I think I met your sister Judith at Sue's daughter Lucy's wedding last year.
Albert - Sue's dad - is wrongly listed as Albert H Anderson in his birth records. It makes me wonder if my nan called him Albert Herbert originally, rather than Albert Edward. Or maybe it's just a slip-up by the registrar.
I'm still trying to find out how I can access bigamy trial records. I don't think the CPS releases that kind of info for 75 years, but I think I could put in a Freedom of Information request. It's difficult, because I don't have any dates. I'd love to know how it all came to light!
Regards,
Debbie
