I imagine it was this family in 1871

Clitheroe, Alston
Hugh SPOTSWOOD 52 Lead Miner
Ann 44 Durham Grove
James 23 Lead Miner
Hugh 21 Lead Miner
Mary A 17 Dom Servant
John 14 Apprentice to Carpet Weaver
Leah 11
Margaret 8
Miles 5
Matthew 2
Others born Alston

I can find no marriage for Hugh in England, Scotland or Gretna ??? nor can I find a place called Grove in Co. Durham.

I think this was Margaret's birth reg

Birth Sep 1862
SPOTSWOOD    Agnes Dearden Margaret         Alston    10b   349

Found Margaret in 1881 for you living in Wardwew, Northumberland.  She is listed as Margaret Spottiswoodie.

Apologies, for not changing the entry enough to make sure copyright doesn't come into question :-\.  If you want/need the info , she was living at Bridge End in Wardew.  There's no number or house name, and she's living as a domestic servant for an Edward Turnball and his widowed mother Eliza.  If you have access to census sites that should give you enough to look the entry up.
