Hello to all,
I am desperately trying to find the birth/baptismal entry for James Ribbans.
I know he married a Bathsheba Catt at St.Matthews church Ipswich on 22-9-1751
and that he may have been the son of Samuel Ribbans & Hannah.
Various sources have suggested he was born around 1723 but where??
The surname has been written variously as;
Ribbans/Revans/Ravens/Ribbands/Revannce/Rubins and no doubt many more
variations.
I can only assume that he came from parishes around the Ipswich area but
I have no proof.
If anyone comes across this entry I would be very grateful if they let me know.

I don't have James in my tree but I do have a John Ribbans who I know was born in 1730 but don't know where but I think it might be Debenham as his daughter was born there in 1764. John was also burried there in 1805. Just a suggestion.

I don't have any info on John Ribbans b1730 in my tree.
He may have been a brother to my James Ribbans - do you know his parents'
names?
Any info I can get would be of interest.

Unfortunately I don't know who his parents were, I only know his year of birth because he was 75 when he was buried.

Alan b - I looked at Debenham parish register transcript and found the following:
John Ribbons s/o John and Anne Ribbons
baptised 30th January 1728
Unfortunately there were no siblings baptised at Debenham (nor a baptism for James) and no marriage for John and Anne at Debenham either.

Hi Anne
I don't know how I missed that as I have been to that records office loads of time, I didn't except a look up so many many thanks :)

Hello Anne,
I really appreciate you looking thru the Debenham PRs for us.
Trying to find some of my "Ribbans" + its variations, is like the proverbial
saying of "trying to find a needle in a haystack"
I'll just have to hope that some day, someone, will fall upon this illusive James Ribbans
and parents.
Many thanks for your time and effort.

Alan b - I didn't realise you were from Suffolk too!
If you check in the Debenham transcript you will see that it gives the baptism date as 30th Jan 1727/28. I then looked at the originals on fiche, and interpreted the date to be January 1728.

Alan,
I was just going through yours and Geoffrey's Revans entries. If you haven't resolved James birth it was 1723 in Winston and his parents were Samuel and Hannah.

Hi Walter,
I didn't realise this thread was still open. Yes I do have James' baptism as 5-5-1723
Winston St.Andrew. This came from another source.
I think were're all looking for his g.grandparents Robert Revans/Ribbans & Hannah ???? marriage,
but that is another thread.
