Title: Bilston / Wolverhampton pubs / Beynon
Post by: ajglos on Saturday 14 February 09 20:16 GMT (UK)
I'm hoping someone can give me some information on the people / pubs involved in this line:
Charles Beynon and his wife Clara ran the Fighting Cocks at Blakenhall in the 1920's/30's, but I'm not sure exactly when. Apparently they hosted annual dinners for the local cricket / bowling clubs?
In census / directories Charles Beynon is also linked to "drinking establishments":
 1901 census: pubkeeper at 160 Bilston st. ?
1904 Kellys directory: beer retailer at 42 Church St??

Any info linked to the people/pubs?
Thanks :

Hi ajglos,

welcome to RootsChat

I'm not sure how to post a link but there's been lots of discussion on pubs in the Bilston area on the:
Black Country Friends and Neighbours thread on the Staffordshire Board

[adding link, not sure if it will work: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=280912.msg2375225;topicseen#msg2375225]

I've only just joined Rootschat so I don't know how much info you have received on the Beynon's but in my Bilston Public House records I have;
Charles David & Clara Beynon licensees of the Town Hall Stores Public House from 1901 to 1909 at 36, Church Street, Bilston.
Hope this is off some use
Japp

Thank you for the info - I did not have this.
The beynons moved fom one public house to another: 160 Bilston st 1901, 42 Church st according to 1904 kellys trade directory ( although you have found 36 Church st)  Peel Arms 1911, Fighting Cocks 1915-1930 and 1932-1937. I do not know where they were for missing years.
