Title: WOODVINE - Shrops/Staffs
Post by: wheelywonderful on Friday 13 February 09 07:21 GMT (UK)
Im making some progress on this line  - which is the maiden name of my maternal grandmother - still going strong at 94.

Woodvine seems to be a relatively rare name but I cant piece together the jigsaw.

Ive got Joseph Henry Woodvine b. Abt 1805 Wolstanton and his father John Woodvine (no information).

Joseph Henry's son appears to be James b. 1838 in Wem, Shrops.

Any others with a similar interest?
Or can you confirm the information in this post?
Thanks in advance.
David

Well David...you have a lot of work ahead of you....ha ha
go to www.freebmd.org.uk
go to search....click on all types.....then type in WOODVINE...then click search...and your RARE surname has
NINETY SIX  birth/marriage/deaths in WEM alone...the first is 1838-the last is 1929....so I am sure some of the latter transcriptions will ring a bell with your grandmother.....good luck and have plenty of paper with you...you will need it.....lol...allan

Hi Sharmar

Sorry long time to get back on this.

Have just been up to Shrops from London for a flying visit.
Sadly the County records office was closed for refit.
Did however get to Wem and Northwood and spoke with some Woodvines on their family farm.
No further with my own Woodvine research but this line is intruiging me.
There is this cluster in Wem area plus another cluster in Wolstanton, Staffs.
It looks like Ive got as foot in both camps.

Have you got access to any parish records etc?

Hi Dave

We are all connected!  The Wem Woodvine connection to me is a James Woodvine b 1792 married to Karenhappuch.  He is the son of William Woodvine b 1766 in Ellenhall Staffordshire, now I descend from James' brother also William (male line all the way down until my mother).

William b 1766 was the son of Richard b 1751 in Newcastle now I think the Woodvines at Wolstanton, Staffs are also from a son of this Richard, Richard b 1774 but I have confirmed this yet.  Let me know if you come up with anything and I will do a bit more digging this end.

Lol Williams83 I can assure you thats not a bad thing!

If your is Margaret Woodvine 1852-1906 marrying John Birch then she is my 2nd Great Grand Aunt.

So what is your connection to Margaret then and are you still in Shropshire?

Sadly not that many Woodvines left now  :'(

If you would like my email address private massage me

And yes Margaret Woodvine is my 3rd great grandmother.   Plus my family are on Shropshire today.   I'm from one of her children.
