Title: COMPLETED: MITTLER - Death date: Camden
Post by: outpostbd12 on Thursday 12 February 09 05:07 GMT (UK)
Looking for death records for the following 2 pepple:

Oscar Mittler born March 5, 1895 in Vienna, Austria (approximate death 1965)
Edith Mittler born May 5, 1898 in Vienna, Austria (approximate death

They are brother and sister and arrived in England in 1939.

Both lived at:111 Hillfield Court, Belsize Avenue, London N.W.3. England (found that using ancestry)

I really just don't have a clue of how to find this... I have no issues finding any death records or burial information for those in Austria.

Thanks very much in advance!!!

Ron

Wow!  Super fast response.  Thank you Cissellby!

May I ask how and where you discovered this so I can learn for next time?

Furthermore, is it possible to find the date for Edith Mittler?  I forgot to list her approximate death date which would be about 1967.

Thanks again,

Ron

Hi Ron,
the last listing for Oscar was 1960 in the telephone directory.
I started searching the death index from that date, thankfully, Oscar was in the 1st, quarter.
You will need to go through each quarter to find Edith, it could be a long trawl.
Good luck.

Cisselby,

You are a superstar!  Thank you again!!!

I'm still a bit confused.  Where is this death index... I couldn't find it?  And what does each section of what is in it mean?

JQ?
5B?
669?  (is that the page)

Amazing, thanks!

Hi Ron

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

You need the information if you are going to order copies of certificates from the GRO at Southport.

MQ= March Quarter (events registered in Jan/Feb/March of the year in question)
JQ= June Quarter (events registered in April/May/June of the year in question)

Paddington has the volume number 5d

669 is the page reference

The freebmd project hasn't got as far as the dates you are looking for so the information has come from a subscription site (such as Ancestry) who are hosting the images of the birth marriage and death indexes.

The death index is under England & Wales Death Index or England & Wales Freebmd Death Index, Oscar is on the first (search through the images) but not the second (I think they have used OCR programming on the 2nd to get all the names and it can be 'hit or miss')

Dawn,

Thank you so much!  That all makes sense, and while I have ancestry, I could never find the entry because it didn't come up in the search... now I understand how to physically "search" without the engine.  Now I can officially put this posting into the completed folder!  I'll see if I can figure that out!

Thanks again to all!

Ron
