Hi Ponti
It is a tricky name isn't it? I was confused at first because the marriage record you quoted has wife Ann, and the census records I came up with at first had wife Mary.
I suppose you have what looks to be Benjamin's second marriage to Mary -
Jul/Sep 1849 Pontefract 22 349
Benjamin Hessom/Mary Ann Lockwood
As to his birth record, according to Genuki Pollington is in Snaith parish. I looked through the relevant batch going into the IGI from the Hugh Wallis site, but no Essom/Hessom/Easom/Eyesome or any other possible variant that I could see.
BUT there is something strange about the batch. There don't seem to be any boys after about 1775, and of the 40 odd baptisms between 1800 and 1812 or so all are definitely girls! It's probably worth checking the parish records or asking for a look-up. Sorry, I can't help with that as I am in the south of England.

Hello Margaret
Where did you try to get the marriage certificate? You should be able to get it from the GRO using the reference number I quoted, but the local register office would probably need to know where the marriage took place. The GRO reference is no good to them.
Good luck

hi anne
i went to pontefract register at first . they could`nt find it
so i sent to the g r o they could`nt find it .
so pontefract are trying to sort it for me
but thats been six months i`m going to have to go again
benjamin is so frustrating i could strangle him lol
margaret :)

What a nightmare! I looked at the image on FreeBMD and Hessom is written with the old style double s . Maybe that's why the GRO didn't find the record - I think they don't send the certificate if it doesn't exactly match what you have put on the form.
I would try again and just give the woman's surname and the reference number this time. Lockwood is pretty straightforward.
The Snaith parish records appear to be at Doncaster Archives. Definitely worth a visit if you are local - as I said the IGI records are more than a bit strange!

Hi
I am new to this website, but came across your message for Hopton's in Stapleton, Bristol, I have been researching the Hopton's on and off for the last year but they were from Fishpond's not sure what connection there is between the two as the area's are quite close. I am not sure of what help we could be too each other, and not quite sure how this site works.

Hi Tidller
Welcome to Rootschat! You will find a lot of very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people here.
If you go to the top of this page and click on Rootschat by the green leaves at the left hand side you will go to the home page. There's a whole section on how to use Rootschat (about the second section down I think).
The Bristol Hoptons aren't our direct line, but I've been researching them a bit trying to find their origins as I think they may be related to our Gloucestershire family. I have quite a lot of Hopton contacts, not really from here, but through Genes Reunited and a couple through Ancestry. Some of them are connected to the Bristol Hoptons and I will send you a private message about that.
Have a good look round here and enjoy!

Hi Anne
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, it has taken me a little while to work around this site. I am interested in the Bristol Hopton's but I am currently working on my side of the family.
The Hopton's I am looking for are back before Fred/ Frederick Hopton 1892 Fishponds Bristol, and his Wife elizabeth Few1890, I can follow her family but his are proving hard. I would be interested in anything you could throw at me from this side.

Hi Tidller
We are way off topic here so I will start a new thread on the Gloucestershire board. I will call it Fred/Frederick Hopton 1892 and you should find it either by going direct to the board or by clicking on my username and then "see recent posts"
