I know that a Charles Ernest Jones aged 34 was at the above camp in 1915 - his address was Remount Dept. HMS Army, 2 Hut, Latham Camp, Ormskirk, but I can find no record of him anywhere else. He married in 1915 - Winifred Ethel Keeling - and was thought to have come from the Essex/London area, father being William Jones, farmer.
Does anyone know anything of this army area - I was told it was concerned with distributing horses to the armed forces - and where their records would be kept. I keep trolling through the Ancestry records but have had no luck there. Any help or info would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

Ken, there is no rank given on the marriage cert. - just what I quoted. It doesn't help that I can't pinpoint the man before 1915 - what a popular name this was - always seems to be the stumbling block!!
Phil, thanks for that - I'll try to get hold of the promised booklet. I'm sure there must be details of the occupants of this camp somewhere. Betty

HMS? Ormskirk is over the water from me, outskirts of Liverpool towards Southport. Very nice area. Lord Derby (Stanley) was instrumental in raising the first pals battalions I think? Scrimnet will probably put me right on that one!

Thanks for that - I've now written to an organisation based at Latham - I don't think this is going to give me any more info on the elusive Charles, but the whole subject is fascinating. Betty
