Hello everyone - I'm hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction. I've searched the WW1 records for a Charles Ernest Jones but haven't found what I was looking for. The only info I have on this man is that in 1915, aged 34, he married Winifred Ethel Keeling, in Croydon. His address is given as Remount Dept. HMS Army, 2 Hut, Latham Camp, Ormskirk, - I believe this was a base for distributing/allocating horses for the war. I don't know where he was born and was hoping for some indication on the marriage cert. The only other detail was that his father was William - Farmer. I'm really struggling here to pinpoint the family as apart from believing they would be from the London area, and later on the Cambridge area, I have nothing to go on.
Is there a collection of records somewhere for soldiers of WW1 and am I right in thinking that many records were lost from that time.
Any glimmer of help you can give me, will be so appreciated. This is not my own family but that of my daughter in law. Many thanks. Betty Smith

Hi betty
Have you searched on Ancestry.com for his WW1 records? Jones is a common name though. Ancestry has WW! service and pension records.
