........ Hiya Everyone interested in the Baston's......
Trying to locate ~ Edward Baston c1752 parents.
His brothers and sisters, if he had any, would be great too!!
Edward Baston married Ann Birt/Burte in Culham 17th March 1778.
He gave his parish as North Hinksey..... nothing there for him.
Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. Lesanne.

Another longshot which might be worth thinking about
Could Sarah the mother have married a Baston when pregnant with Edward
Any Baston marriages you have with a Sarah thats not accounted for?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ooOoo Now then.... this is from my memory........
There's a Martha Hunt.... whose sister Sarah is possibly her gt aunt as well. I got so confused trying to work it out.
It was one of my first searches on RC... found it... here it is ;)
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,72571.0.html
I have found names Hunt, Simpson, Rose, in North Hinksey that reminded me of that ........
I think its on the FTM 'cause Lizzy Simpson married Teddy Baston.... son of Thomas Baston and Rose Hudson.
Oh Lawdy, I'm confused already.........
-
I was never sure of the Sarah Ann/Martha side maybe this is the reason.
Anyway this is what I have ....
The only other cert is Lizzy to Teddy 1910 same parents, in Maidenhead.
-
OOOh, you mean Edey.... the offspring..... well :o never thought, took it to be Edith as the mother........
Ann Tildesley, I have her as 9th October 1814 BUSCOT :-\
to William Tildesley no more info
and Sarah Hunt c1785 Blayden Green.
That's all I have and got totally confuddled here on back...... :-[ ;D ;D
-
I think it's because Enos and Ann's son,
William John Simpson1848 also married a Sarah Ann Huntc1851 who
I have, as having, a mother Marthac1829.
The Martha Ann Simpson1846 from Enos's 1st wife Caroline Step, we have now a burial of 1846.
March 1869 William John Simpson married Sarah Ann Hunt. Faringdon.
Yikes !!!
William J Simpson son in law age 22, occ chemists porter
Sarah A Simpson dau age 19
Charles W Simpson grandson age 1
Albert Simpson grandson age 4 months
All b Berkshire
Address Black Green, Faringdon
-
Maybe Sarah is meant to be wife but checked original and it says dau ???
-
:-\ That's them... but how can he be son in law ~ if, his mum was Ann Tildesley?
and wife Sarah Ann Hunt ?
-
I have found a Mary Townsend marriage 21/2/1838 to William Rouse.
There could of been 2 Mary's as wives...
Going back to Sarah Hunt snr c1785 born Blaydon Green (1851 Gt Farringdon cen)
is she connected to...
Mary Hunt snr c1796 born Stanford (1851 cen)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sarah A was the illeg daug of Martha, but she was brought up by Martha's sister Mary, who was the second wife of William Rouse. :)
Mary, Martha and Elizabeth were d/o William Hunt (1793) and Mary(1796 Stanford).
In turn William was s/o George Hunt and Ann Hammond married 1793, Farringdon. :D

-
;D Morning Toni. Yes that's right..
-
Greetings all,
I have been going through the first part of this thread (and have yet to get further, so apologies if the following query has been elucidated on further) and have noticed:
Hannah Edwell.. ancestorees....
John Edwell and Rebecca Stibbs mar c 1808
John Stibbs and Sarah Denton mar c 1777
Francis Denton and Sarah Hoare mar c 1740
Thomas Hoare and Mary Stephens. mar c 1710
I have a Denton link from St. Giles, Oxford and wondered if this Sarah is linked to mine?
My details:
Thomas Denton married Hannah Kitching on 2 April 1821 at St. Giles, Oxford. They had 9 children all together, one of which, Hannah Denton, married William Stevens in March Quarter, 1852 in Headington Registration District.
That is as far back as I have got so far.
Any link?
Regards,
James R. Yeowell.
-
Morning James i will leave Lesanne to answer that
:)
Les
Martha Hunt is she bp. 11 Oct 1825 Gt Farringdon d/o William and Mary in which case would it be William that might be related to Sarah (from the previous thread) and not Mary?
-
Thanks, Toni,
Also just noted this:
And from Milton PRs
Sarah Denton was a twin
22 Jan 1751 Sara Denton dau Francis and Sarah ( no h on end of Sara)
22 Jan 1751 Richard Denton
Still no tie-on but I hope Les may know more.
Regards,
James R. Yeowell.

1712 Souch, Wm of Willersly, Glouc + Bryan, Mary of Oxford
Possibly the Souch family are from Glos...... Undecided Huh
I believe Souch is a derivative of Zouch(e). There are some in Chertsey, Surrey.
I have no idea about Gloucestershire though.
-
James thats a good point re variants, i did think perhaps it could have been South but as South is not an easy name to research I didn't attempt
-
Hiya.. Crikey!! you have been busy..... ;D
Hello James... :D
I have Sarah Denton's parents Francis Denton and Sarah Hoare marrying in Radley 14th Oct 1746.
Children born in Milton.
So that's where we get the twins... ;D ;D 3 xlots in our generation !!!
-
Re: Souch -- the (de la) Zouche family is an ancient one indeed but it is almost impossible to link up Souch and Zouches to this ancient gentry family, I believe. Ashby de la Zouche in Leicestershire was linked to this family.
Re: Denton -- I am pretty sure there must be a link between my Thomas Denton, of St. Giles, Oxford and your Dentons.
I have no idea where my Thomas Denton originated...
Sue, can you check the Thomas Denton and Hannah Kitching marriage of 2 April 1821 at at St. Giles, Oxford on the OMI for me, please? I am hoping it tells me if they were Of the Parish or not.
Thank you!
Regards,
James R. Yeowell.
-
I'm in and out today..... :-\
I notice you have Davis as well. From memory Hannah Edwell's sister marries Davis.... :-\
Sarah Denton is Hannah's grandmother. :D
Do you have Souch/Zouch in your line James .....
Les
-
My Davis family are of Oxford. I am still persuing them.
William Davis, a boat builder (according to his daughter's marriage certificate), married Fanny Petty in December Quarter, 1851, in Oxford. Fanny Petty was of Abingdon (Sue has found them for me and they were of the Trinity Church, Abingdon). Actually, Fanny Petty married aged 36 and is noted on two censuses, as being deaf.
I have yet to find this William Davis on a census. He was dead by 1871 but he should be on the 1861 and 1851 censuses. He maybe of Oxford, he maybe of elsewhere.
Re: Souch -- alas, no, I am not related to any Souch/Zouches but I have interests in Chertsey, Surrey and have microfiche for that parish and I have noticed Souch's there before. I have also got a knowlege of many ancient families and I have read that Souch is a derivative of Zouch(e).

Did somebody mention the Plum family?
I doubt this is of much use but I just randomly came across this:
http://www.ocotilloroad.com/geneal/plumbe1.html
-
thats a good site - just scrolling through
-
I just hope I was not imagining that Plum...
I did notice these Plumb(e)s were of Oxfordshire and Berkshire though. You never know, there maybe a link somewhere amongst all those people.
-
you was not imagining the Plum(B)
Les line
Thomas Plumm b. 1642 m. Elizabeth
child
James Plumb b. 1696 m. Susanna Church (b.1709)
child
John Plumb b. 1741 m. Sarah Strong (b. 1750)
child
Elizabeth Plum 1782-1852 m. Thomas Simpson (1784-1837)
child
Enos Simpson 1812-1849
and so on under the Simpson name
i belive these events were Berkshire but i cannot remember ::)
:)
-
:o :o The names coming out of that site.... :o Hazell-Hobbs-Strange-Plumbe.
The Plumbe that side is belonging to the Turner/Norris side. O'eck that's another day.
Thanks for posting that James ;D
-
Did I see mention of Beasley?
If so:
John Buckland married Elizabeth Beesley on 2 July 1792 at St. Peter's, Oxford.
I know a little more about this family, so if there is a link, do let me know. Alas, they used to be a part of my own family until I realised I was following the wrong Stevens family.
-
Les just looking at your hunt i can't see any Plums only Plumridge / Turner part 3/4
and in caseits relevant (your old thread)
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,157903.0.html
-
Oh, I have a Plumridge!
Edward Plumridge married Elizabeth Petty (chr. 13 August 1790, Holy Trinity, Abingdon) on 11 November 1815 at St. Helen's, Abingdon.
I do not know anything further about Edward Plumridge but Elizabeth Petty is a daughter of Benjamin Petty and Hannah, my own ancestors.
-
Sue can you see if there is a marriage for William HUnt to Mary circa 1825 Great Farringdon
Hi Toni,
Cant see a marriage 5 years either side of this date for William and Mary ::)
Will check nearby villages ;D ;D
-
Woah... and I've only come in for lunch.... Beesley and Norris... up in Islip they 'joined'. I must finish the other socket and cable run before dark... ::) ::)
Added : Turner+ Buckland too..... :P :P Ummm...... where was it. ...er Sunninghill ::)
There is a Scavenger Hunt somewhere in Berks Completed, I think it is, James, parts 1 thru 6/7 :o in there is the Norris ancestors in Islip and on back, to Headington/Forest Hill. If you find any link, we shall have to post on the end of that, no 7, as we shall be 'moderated' for being on the Baston thread.
Les.. who is cold, hungry and needs to find the dead rellies and not doing the electrics. ;D
-
My post was ambiguous.
I meant I knew more about the Bucklands. I do not know anything further about the Beesleys. I shall do some digging though.

Sophia poss. married James Stockbridge
however i do not know if this is the case
again no marriages
and unlike Charlotte no Edwell's
on the census with Stockbridges
1861
RG10; 1302; 49; 26;
Sophia Edwell married Henry Cosstick at All Souls Church, St Marylebone, in London on 9 April 1844. They had two children Henry 1846 and Ellen 1848. The children apparently died and Sophia and Henry emigrated to Australia in 1853. The story of the emigration is told here:- http://cosstick.blogspot.com/2007/05/3-emigrants.html
Henry became manager of a number of goldmines in Victoria. The full story of Henry and Sophia's life in Australia can be found here:- http://cosstick.blogspot.com/2007/05/5-goldminers.html
Hopefully this helps with the Sophia Edwell mystery. I am trying to find out more about what she was doing in London before 1853 so any details would be appreciated.
-
:) Hello DouglasW,
A warm welcome to Rootschat.
I have other info on Edwell family. Is there anything else or just Sophia?
Kind regards,
Lesanne.
-
I am descended from a brother of Henry Cosstick who married Sophia Edwell in 1844, however I have published, and am now revising for a new edition, a history of the Cosstick family. Henry and Sophia are part of that broader picture. Details of Sophia's early life and reasons for being in London during the 1840s are of interest.

Dear Caz
I have tried to go on to the web-sites you mention for the Baston family, but one seems unavailable and the other doesn't have my rellies on it - and apparently you can only make enquiries if they are on the list - I am looking at William Casemore Baston, born in Nuneham Courtney in 1816, the illegitimate son of, I think, Mary Baston, who was the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Baston. Can you help at all please? His father is supposed to be John Casemore - who I can't find on anything yet. William Casemore Baston was the Estate Carpenter at Nuneham Courtney until his death in 1912.

The above link is for the 'Baston' tree on page 1 of this thread.
I think we have 'Casemore' as desc from Tom & Rose Baston.
One of their daughters, possibly Nellie Frances.
Let me know if you need this info.
Best wishes,
Lesanne.
-
Dear Lesanne
Thankyou very much for replying - he appears in the 1851 Census as the grandson of Stephen Baston who was a carpenter in the 1841 Census but by the 1851 Census is listed as an Agricultural labourer - mind you he is over 80 at this point! My husband is descended from Alfred Ernest Baston, his son, born Nuneham May 1855. The IGI did list William Casemore Baston as the son of Mary Baston but they don't seem to have anywhere near so many records available as they used to, and it has disappeared.

Jul 2 1820 John Davis to Mary Baston at St Helens
Hope this helps
Sue :)
-
Dear Sue
Thank you very much - that is incredibly helpful - I take it that she and William Cazemore were not married, then. If Mary subsequently married that explains why she doesn't appear on the censuses - he probably was brought up by his grandparents. That is super! With Stephen, his grandfather, it takes us nicely into the 18th Century, too. I am SO grateful.
Again, thanks

Well done Sue. ;D I knew I'd heard of them. Good job you found them, it would of been the paper trail... ::)

Hi,
I missed this thread. Did not see the part about William Casemore Baston.
If you are interested, I can provide further information on the Casemores. The father of William Casemore Baston was most likely John Casemore,farmer of Ickford. It is is a bit of a mystery why William Casemore is named as father in the Nuneham Courtney PR. The Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Nuneham Courtenay brought charges against John Casemore of Ickford, Bucks "in a matter of Bastardy on the complaint of Mary BASTON, single woman".
William Casemore Baston is one of three known illegitimate children fathered by John Casemore with three different women. The other children were:
John bapt. 22 Feb 1807 Ickford
s/o of John Casemore and Mary Brock
Priscilla bapt. 11 July, 1810, Ickford
d/o John Casemore and Jane Freeman
There is no evidence of John Casemore ever having been married.
John Casemore bapt. 3 Oct.1810, Ickford, Bucks
s/o Richard Casemore and Mary
:) :) :)Merry Christmas to All :) :) :)

Dear Carmela
Come to think of it, is the date for John Casemore a mistake, please?

Derby Girl

Sorry. That was a typo. The baptism date for John Casemore should read:
3 Oct. 1774, Ickford
And I hadn't been into the Christmas win :D :D
