need a little bit more info than that
are you looking for census entries 1841-1901

had a quick look at 1861 census there are 10 entries with name beeston living in newport shropshire.

Hi Wozzle,
I am trying to find Peter Beeston born newport about 1867 i reckon his father was James Beeston b.1837 and his mother sarah ann Madeley b.1841
however on the 1871 census Peter does not appear. the only 1871 census i can find a Peter on is one that shows a Peter living with his granddad?
i can't even find his birth otherwise i would send for his birth certificate.
Thanks
Dave

is he the peter beeston occ shoemaker born newport 1866 who is an inmate in prison in shrewsbury in 1881.
also i cannot find a marriage between a james beeston and sarah ann madeley
there is a marriage in 1864 in newport between a james beeston and sarah ann adams

i have followed the grandfather john beeston of the peter beeston in the 1871 census that you found
i have followed him back to 1851 and he has a son james beeston born 1837
so it looks like a very good possibility that the peter you found in 1871 is the right one.
if you want to have a look at the 1851 yourself here is the source citation
HO107/1998/30947.
if you do not have access to ancestry then i will post the census entries here.

Hi Wozzle,
I have looked at everything i have got and the 1851 census and it all looks good HOWEVER!! i am still a bit confused are we saying that Peter's dad was James Beeston 1837 and his granddad was John 1807ish (this is what i thought)
now Peter was married twice first to Emily Reeves 1883 in Cannock and second to Edith Beeston 1899 Stoke on Trent.
i have a copy of the marriage certificate to Edith and it shows Peter's dad to be a John Beeston shoemaker deceased.
and Ediths dad to be a James Beeston groom
now either Peters parents rejected him for some reason and he went to live with his granddad John (hence the John on the marriage cert)
or Peter's dad was James and he married his sister??
i could do with the marriage certificate of Peter and Emily just to see if his father shows as John
or Edith's birth certificate.
thanks for your help and any more suggestions would be most welcome.
all the best
Dave

Hi Dave,
I've been tracing my ancestors and have come to a similar problem as yourself.
My great grandfather was I believe Peter Beeston's younger brother Alfred as per the 1871 census.
I believe that his father was a John Beeston (2 - born 1831) and his Grandfather was also a John Beeston(1 - born 1808)
I think that the Peter that you refer to actually married his cousin Edith Beeston whose father James ( born 1837) was John Beestons (2) brother and John Beestons (1) Son.
Do you have access to ancestry.co.uk
If you do I can send you a link and you can see the relationship tree as I understand it.
I've currently applied for Alfred's birth cert as I have not managed to find a definite mother. Do you happen to have found any other info back yet as that may confirm or invalidate my findings so far.
