Hello I'm new! I'm not sure whether to put this message in Wales, or Immigrants....
I’m looking for any information about a John Olsen born Sweden in about 1838.
He died in Ffestiniog district Wales in 1881, aged 43.
He married in Pwllheli March quarter 1870 to a Catherine Williams, but he isn’t on any of the censuses with his wife and children as he was a mariner.
I think I’ve found him on the 1881 census on the ship “Candace” in Caernarvonshire, Wales, he’s listed as mate and married (aged 42).
I’m new at researching and have no further information. Any more information will be gratefully received.

The records for Merchant Mariners tend to be a bit thin on the ground at this time - if he was mate then he might have a certificate (see second link):

The marriage certificate for the two of them would be a good start. You unfortunately have a very common name and no birthplace in Sweden to work from, so it's a tricky one.

There are quite a few Welsh crewlists online that might help. You can find some links to them here.
