Thank you so much for that info Balnacree, have been searching for Annie for ages with no luck, have now found them on the 1911 census and see the children were born in America! I still cant find a marriage for them, there is nothing on Emerald Ancestors and cant find them on 1901 census.
I have found 10 brothers and sister of Annie and have some info on most of them but some seem to have vanished ???
If you have any more info you would like to share I would be most appreciative :)

I have been trying to find out who George was first married to, they had one daughter Anna who was born in northern ireland in 1881 and they went to USA in 1882 where he had three other children, his first wife must have died and then he married Annie Eliza. I have some photographs of her which I will share with you.
Any information you can give me would be much appreciated.
I have a photo of James craig's grave, but I do not know which church it is at
will keep in touch

I am fairly sure that is Mary Jane Hampton. Son Joshua Fowler's obituary says that is the name of his mother. Mary Jane's parents are Samuel Hampton of Ballynagarrick and Annie? Frances? Geary.
Mary Jane's brother Moses Hampton also moves to NY and the families are close. Martha Craig was also suppose to be in NY, but I can't find her.
It looks like George who married Mary Jane was baptized as Joshua, son of George and Rachel (Joyce) Fowler. Was it a coincidence that 2 Fowlers were born Oct, 1859 or did someone make a mistake?

Was it a coincidence that 2 Fowlers were born Oct, 1859 or did someone make a mistake?
Is Oct.1859 birthdate or baptism date? It's not uncommon for more than 1 child in a family to be baptised at the same time.
-
Dec 4, 1859 was the baptism date and Oct 18, 1859 was the birth date given for Joshua Fowler, son of George and Rachel.
In 1892, says familysearch pilot, George has already married Anna and no kids are listed for them. They are said to have just married in another census. It is possible they were with a friend, perhaps Moses Hampton and not reported by accident. In 1897, Anna E. is returning from Ireland with many children all born in the US. Joshua is 11 and his obituary lists him as the son of George Fowler and Mary Jane Hampton.
A different Joshua Fowler is on the same page in the 1892 census, about the same age, and appears married to Margaret Jane McGaffin per Emerald Ancestors. The family moved away from what I gather. She may be from may be the same Bleary McGaffin families who later go to NY. This should be the son of George and Rachel Joyce Fowler.
James Craig is listed in the pilot site as having Sarah Jane Malcomson as a wife and they had several more children. Rebecca married Adam Richardson as one of her sons has Craig as a middle name.

Hi KatC
You say Martha Craig was supposed to be in NY, how do you know this? I have been searching for info on her and her sisters Jemima b 1874, Edith b 1885 and brother John b 1882 for ages with no luck, I have their sister Christina b 1877 on 1901 census but can't find her in 1911. Their parents were James Craig and Sarah Ann Malcomson, they had 11 children in total, I have info on all the others.
-
John Craig looks like the man who married Maba Hume in New Westminster, BC in Canada on the new familysearch beta site http://fsbeta.familysearch.org/
Jemima probably married Thomas Rountree in 1895 in Co. Armagh. Emerald Ancestors, but I didn't check the census.
Martha aged 24 was on Ellis Island's site in 1897 with her passage paid for by her sister, a Fowler. She was headed toward her sister. The "fulton postcard"
site does not seem to give any mention of her marriage or death, but the search engine won't let you limit the search by using quotes. It also won't let you see exactly what it found, so you have to usually go through 100-1000 entries and crash off the site many times. Still, it is fabulous for tracing people.
-
On Ellis Island, John 17 and Edith Craig 16 of Gilford are going to Christina Craig in Rockton, Amsterdam, NY in 1893. The site gives you the wrong manifest, so push the previous button about 3-4 times to see the manifest 2 pages before. I don't think they are in the 1900 census there, but haven't checked. Rockton soon becomes a part of Amsterdam. People often moved on to Toronto or Philadelphia or went back to Ireland.
Rockton had a carpet mill that was recruiting people specifically from the area near Ballygargin and Ballydougan and Edith was a reeler.
There is a Christina Craig going to sister Mrs. Larson and another again to Annie Lyness Lyttle. Thomas Craig who married Margaret Lyness had a daughter Christina, so this appears to be a different family and from the Drumgor area. I've never heard of an Irish Mrs. Larson, so I can't help there.
-
Thank you KatC for all that info, will look into it.

Hi Elizabeth
That is the grave of my Great Grandparents James Craig and Mary Jane Richardson, Dundonald Cemetery.
The Rev John Craig Richardson must be Annie's sister Rebecca who married Adam Richardson, their son was John Joseph Craig Richardson, I didn't know he was a Rev, does it give any more info on him?
12 Dunbarton St was just up from the library in Gilford, it was the Butchers shop where my Grandfather was born, my mum remembers visiting there. I have spent many hours visiting the graveyards around gilford searching for Craig graves....mostly with no luck. Do you know anything about Annie's other brother and sisters or could maybe give me Annie's date and place of birth.
If I can help out wit any info that I have which you might like pls ask. I have photo's of James Craig and Rebecca Craig.
Sandra
-
sorry that was supposed to be Annie's place and date of death :-\
-
At the bottom of the photo is says Rev and Mrs John Craig Richardson Alan Robert Sylvia Jean Brian Craig. I assume this must be the names of the three children. The photo looks american.
How did the Craigs come to be buried in Dundonald.
Samuel fowler went to America also and some of his family were born there.
-
I know that John Joseph craig Richardson and his brother went to Australia in their teens, so am not sure if this is the same person.
Am not sure how the Craig's came to be buried in Dundonald, I know they had property and a shop in Belfast.
Have seen Samuel Fowler on the 1900 census.
Are Annie and George buried in Knocknamuckley?
-
I am having a problem with the computer.
I am not sure where they are buried, I have looked Knocknamuckley but can only find Samuel's grave, I am intending to contact the church.
There is a Fowler headstone at Newmills Presbyterian church, I have been told that the original head stone was moved when they made an extension to the church and a new headstone with no details was put up.
I think the fowlers worked in Mohawk carpet mills in New Jersey.
on the 1911 census annie is given as 41
Samuel and rachel Doad were witness at George Fowler and Rachel Joyce's wedding. Gilford Presbyterian church.
When George and Annie returned from USA they lived outside scarva and Sarah was married in Poyntzpass Presbyterian church. I have not managed to get there to check if there was any fowler graves. Also Jemina died at age 12 and I can not find where she was buried.
-
If you are referring to Samuel and Rachel Doak, that may be Samuel, son of John Doak and Rachel Joyce. Fowlers, Doaks, and Joyces intermarried a lot. John Doak was in Amsterdam by 1888 and would have encouraged the Fowlers to emigrate.
The Mohawk mill is probably in Amsterdam, New York. In 1893 the Fowlers might have worked for Sanford & Sons mill which became Bigelow or, more likely, the McCleary,Faulds, & Crouse Mill in Rockton and Amsterdam or the Shuttleworth Brothers Mill. The last 2 merged to become Mohawk in 1921. The McCleary mill was recruiting from the Newmills and Knocknamuckley church area and one of the owners personally knew the Fowlers.

I am researching George & Rachel (Joyce) Fowler my husband's possible 2x great grandparents. I believe that my husband's great grandfather, Fergus Fowler, may be their son. Some of Fergus' children, including my husband's grandmother settled in the Philadelphia area, but often traveled to Amsterdam, NY.
I have been researching Fergus' siblings. I know that George, brother of Fergus, was married Mary Jane Hampton and then to Anna Eliza Craig and that he settled in Amsterdam, NY as did many members of the Fowler family.
Recently an album full of old pictures was found and there are very few clues to help identify the people in the photos save for the last name Craig. Most of the photos appear to be taken in the very early 1900's in Gloucester City, NJ. The business name of Chas. H. Craig, Gloucester City, NJ also appears on a truck.
I believe that there is a possible connection between Anna Eliza Craig and this album, so I am especially interested in researching the Craig family.
Thank you!
-
Hi,
Can't help with the Craigs and you may already have this. 22 Feb 1854 George Fowler, father Fergus, married Rachel Joyce, father George, in Gilford Presbyterian Church, Banbridge District.

Hi Chumledo
Anna Eliza Craig was the sister of my Great Grandfather. I know when George married Mary Jane and Anna Eliza and I have quite a bit of info about all their children. George and Anna Eliza came back to Gilford in Sep 1901, I have them on the 1911 Census and Anna Eliza signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912.
Do you have death dates for George, Mary Jane or Anna Eliza? I have a lot of info on Anna Eliza's siblings and the Craig family.
Sandra
-
Hi,
Thank you for the information on the marriage of George & Rachel (Joyce) Fowler. May I ask where you found this information?
Bette
-
Hi Sandra,
I don't yet have dates of death for George, Mary Jane or Anna Eliza. I am working on that. I would love any information that you may be able to provide about Anna Eliza and her siblings. I have a strong feeling that may help solve the mystery of the photos I found. Would it be best to exchange emails off list about this?
Thank you,
Bette

Was John Joseph Craig Richardson born on 21/02/1907. William, David and Gabriel were his siblings and his parents were Adam Richardson and Rebecca Craig.
Other we believe relatives with Craig in their name include - James Craig, David Craig and Thomas Craig. We believe James Craig was at some point a ships purveyor.
-
Hi dcrough
All that information is correct. Are you related to John Joseph Craig Richardson?
-
Hi,
If its correct than yes. I would be his great nephew. Gabriel was my grandfather.
Are you related?
-
David Craig was my Grandfather.
I believe William Richardson went to England, Gabriel and John Joseph Craig went to Australia and David was killed in the war, does this tie in with what you have?
-
Hi,
Adam, his wife (Rebecca) and William, Gabriel, John and David all went to the UK - Newcastle Upon Tyne. They did live in Tullylish as I understand.
John and Gabriel both went to Australia. John stayed in Griffith NSW and Gabriel lived in Griffith and than moved to Tamworth NSW.
David was killed in the war as I understand it.
I am new to the family history search so would love to have any information you can share. Have some documents on the Craig family (nothing to exciting) which I would be happy to email you copies of for your interest.
-
Have sent you a pm.

A very, very kind lady sent me photographs of Joshua Fowler and his descendents. Possibly she was from Sarah (Fowler) Jones' line. Included is George Fowler and his second wife Ann Elizabeth Craig plus Samuel Fowler's daughters. George's kids Jemma, Edith, Sarah, and Elizabeth are in another photograph. They are the last 4 children born in the family per my tree. I have Joyces and Doaks at Newmills & Amsterdam in my tree, but I haven't followed the Fowler line past 1900. Would someone PM me some of the tree past then and ID some of the photographs. Do you know if Robert Jones is originally from Moyraverty?
-
Have you looked for Fowlers on 1901 Census?

I checked Amsterdam newspapers, census, and directories to 1935, the 1901 and 1911 census in Ireland, Knocknamuckley and Newmills records. I do not see farmer James Jones with son Robert near Newry, but I am not sure if wife Sarah Fowler is the one who might have returned from Amsterdam. Jane, dau of George & Ann E. Craig appears to write to sister Edith mentioning in-laws. I don't know names or location. The connection to the Gracey's and Ford's is through the Jones and, since I don't know if they are alive, i won't name them. I don't know how Boyles are connected. I would guess some of the Kinleys in Canada are still alive. The older picture labelled 'unknown' have the best chance of including a distant relative of mine.
