I've been searching for my great-grandfather, William Thomas Craven born 1887, on the 1911 census. I have seen the transcript but cannot access the original page. He was in the military based near Aldershot, so there is no reason it should not be avaliable. Are many other military records like this? Has find my past said anything about it?

Hi HoppShill
My great grandfather appears to be at a Royal Navy base in Weymouth and I also can't see the original page. I think military pages are coming at a later date. Although the messages from FindMyPast about it have been very mixed and confusing I have to say. :( ::)

Thank you very much. As long as know that they are eventually coming.
Thanks again

I hope so, I'm dying to see the page as it was a complete surprise that my great grandfather was in the Navy, my dad didn't know either.

I am trying to find out where my great-grandfather was born and it does not say on the transcript

I am in the same position. My grandfather is shown aged 24 stationed at the Horfield Barracks in Bristol. Confirmation I need is the place of birth, which is not shown on the transcript. :(
Hopefully we should hear soon.

I am hoping desperately that I have the right one, without date of birth I also lack confirmation that this really is my great grandfather.
Hopefully it will be solved soon.

Hi :)
Has anyone downloaded the original image of a military person? I am just wondering whether it gives anymore information apart from the place of birth than the transcript please?

Hi Evie
I have downloaded the image of my great great uncle and great grandfather and no it doesn't give any more information, just name, age, occupation and place of birth.

Hi Evie,
Yes I have downloaded the original image of 2 relatives who are listed as Overseas Military. The images give Name in Full, Rank, Age last birthday, Condition as to Marriage, Unit or Arm of Service, Trade or Occupation if any and Birthplace.

Thanks for your replies Kerry and Kaybron :)
On the transcript does it give the rank and unit or arm of service? I cannot decide which one to download as a search for him with his place of birth did bring up my guy and I know he wasn't married at the time.

Hi Evie,
Both images I have give Rank and the Unit.
One has Walter Percy Hammond Private and in the Unit column has West Riding Regiment
Second has John Hammond Private and in the Unit column 12th R Lancers
The transcript provides just as much information
For Albert Edward Hammond Marital status is given, age, Where born and in the Military details are given about Rank and Unit In the final column for Albert I have Lance Sergeant 10th Battalion, Alexandra Princess of Waler's Own
Just as much detail is provided on the Transcript as the Image.

Thanks very much Kaybron :) decision made, I might as well just have the transcript.
