Title: BAILEY of Wiltshire
Post by: MGraham on Sunday 01 February 09 17:08 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find the baptism, marriage & parents of Thomas Bailey born about 1851 in Charlton, Wiltshire.
He married Mary who was born about 1843 in Huish, Wiltshire.
They had 4 children - Susan born about 1869 Huish
                                  William 1873 Milton
                                  Edward 28.3.1877 Charlton
                                  Mary A 1880 Rushall
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
Mel

FreeBMD shows Rebecca Bailey born 1838 Mar qtr, Pewsey district 8/391.   Thomas Bailey born Mar qtr 1851 Pewsey dist 8/438.

No marriage on freeBMD for Thmas Bailey and Mary Perry - see 1851 cesus - possibly Thomas Bailey and Mary Burden 1846 Dec qtr, Pewsey dist 8/687.

Possible death of Marrian - Mary Ann Bailey 1852 Dec qtr, Pewsey district, 5a/119.   Don't know where the mother in law Hannah Perry came from in 1851.

Only in Wiltshire for a few days, freezing cold, expecting snow, hope it's warmer in S. Australia Kris.   Bound to be, it's summer down under.

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

Too hot here this past week - 40c+ each day since Tuesday 45.7 on Wednesday. 40 expected today :o

MMM Dave looks like I am wrong above re Burdon, didn't really read your 51 entry re Perry before I posted.

They are the only three baptisms I can see for a James and Mary too

Was just about to post

Mary BURDON bap 28 Oct 1827 parents James and Catherine (so doesn't fit even for a remarriage)

Was wondering if there may have been a second marriage (m in law  ??? ) Have been looking but if there was I don't see it and there are only normal gaps between children

Just thought I'd throw in a little wrinkle  Kris ;)

Unable to get to WSRO so sadly not able to confirm baptisms - must rush away to warmer climes to escape the snow which has duly arrived.

Hasta luego, Dave

I had a suspicion of a second marriage because in 1881 census Thomas & Mary have 4 children, one of whom is Susan but she is age 12 so that would make Thomas only 18 when she was born but mother would have been 26.

this looks like Thomas in 1871
Dare

Henry Sheppard Head m 75 Parish relief Dare
Mary wife 67 Domestic duties Dare
Thomas bailey Boarder U 20 carter Charlton
RG10 1939 61 20

so looks like Mary alreadty had a child/chiloren when they married

Cant find a birth reg for Susan bailry -there are a few possibilities for a marriage of Thomas/Mary 1871-1881
