Is anyone else having trouble accessing Ancestry. So far I can get Ancestry home page but when I click on anything I get the google search page saying cant find your page.Tried firefox but that gives a message check back later.
Im sick to death of this week after week, while all the time your subscriptions are running out.Dont now know whose to blame.AOL or Ancestry but either way its turning into a massive ripoff of my money.

Ive just rung Ancestry and they say they are having problems with the site and are adding more servers to make it faster and it should be OK later today.
Lets hope it is.!!!!!

Having the same problem too. How about we all ask for a days subs refund???
I bet that would get them moving.
Oh well ,bang goes my morning on the magic box , I suppose I had better pull my wellies on and dig the new flower border before the snow arrives.

Earlier today I could not even load the Ancestry Home Page... just got a message that said I couldn't be connected to that site....
Six hours later it seems to be behaving itself again............. let's hope that they've got their act together again, or they'll be losing my sub in April when it comes due again.

They have only yesterday uploaded all of the births and marriages, transcribed since 1916 which would appear to be a huge bonus for us. This appear to have been the reason for the hold ups then, I wonder if there are to be more goodies today which they are attempting to provide to us.
It might be a good idea if we had a little patience and see.
-
Completely agree MaryA, we must be patient.
But its very hard, when we know what exciting goodies await us......
Hopefully it will all be back up and running soon - then we will probably all crash it again as we stampede onto the site! ;D
-
The goodies arent much good if we cant access them. Not easy to be patient when you only have limited time to search and its not the BMDs you want >:(

We won't be able to access them at all unless they are uploaded.
We don't know that it's ONLY the BMD's that they are uploading, recently there have been quite a number of other databases also, eg the the Incoming Passenger Lists.
I do feel that as they are giving us more for our dosh, at least until they rethink the pricing policy, we could give them a few hours to get it up there.

Oh yes, but I think the parish records from the London Metropolitan Archives would be too much to hope for ! :)
I'm waiting with baited breath for those ! ;D

You and me to, I don't suppose anyone knows the time scale as to when these will get uploaded, I saw the email reply in another thread stating that they would be coming soon, but how soon is soon ?
Oh and does anyone think we need a Ancestry board on here these days for all these "I am having problems questions" and the like ?

My first thought was this is going live!?!? ???

Fingers crossed.

Well, they say "Early 2009", which could be now, or could equally be May ::)
Let's hope they're launching it now to compete with FindMyPast and the 1911 census 8)

Thanks for the link, I had not seen that before. So hopefully not long to go then, the other link I read on here with a quote from Ancestry said it was going live "soon".

I have been having problems with dreadful slowness on Ancestry since December. I have been in email and phone communication with them. As far as I can make out, the problem is due to the huge expansion of the site in both records and members, which has overloaded their servers. However, this doesn't seem to be affecting everyone to the same degree. At one end of the scale there are people who have no problems at all, while at the other end there are some for whom the site is unusable, and Ancestry are baffled. They told me that they have a dedicated team working on it and that new servers are being installed.
It does seem to have improved a bit in the last day or two, but I doubt it will ever be as quick as it used to be.

I don't know if it will help or you have tried it but there is a link/button at the top that says "switch back to old seach experiance" might speed things up for you? :)
-
Hi Stewart
Thanks, but I have always had the old search. What I did do when I read your post, was switch to the new! And it was lovely and fast. But then, for comparison, I switched back to the old - just as fast!
Ancestry do have these odd moments of speed and five minutes from now it could be back to normal. I will have to wait for it to slow down, and then run a comparison.

Yes, just tried it again and it's approx 45 second waits between each click, both old and new. And that's good compared with some of the waiting times.
At least they didn't play me music while I waited.

I reported some missing images over the weekend and I have checked them again today and they are still not there. This is the first time I have run into this, I got a standard auto reply back from them.

For those enquiring about the LMA digitisation project, the first records to most probably go online will be the Guardian & Poor Law records. Parish registers will be much later in the year :-\

Not good news, but thanks anyway, Dawn :)
