Hi
I've been doing a one-name study of the surname Lickfold for the last 30 years. The name originates just over the border into West Sussex, Lickfold being a hamlet in the parish of Lodsworth which is south from Haslemere.
One of my ancestors moved to Seale, on the "hogs back", around 1540, and one of his descendants subsequently moved on to Farnham / Frensham in the early 1700s.
I'm hoping that some listers may have links with this illustrious name.

Dear Gordon,
My name is John Lickfold. I am a student in Canada and I am interested in researching our unique and established name. I know the possibility of You and I being directly related is slime to none, but I am excited and confident to think that you are a relative of mine from far down the Lickfold family tree. I too possess the same passion for our family name and I think it is astounding that I could be replying to a relative of mine! I look forward to your reply and hope to hear from you soon.
Your's in family and/or friendship
John Lickfold

Hello John
I'm sorry you've had to wait so long for this reply. Like you, I have only recently discovered Rootschat, and I'm afraid it's been several weeks since I last logged on to the site.
As you are in Canada, I expect you descend from John Lickfold (1832 - 1907), or possibly his brother Alfred (1827 - 1900). They were both millers who emigrated to Ontario around 1850. Please can you let me know if you know which family you're in, or otherwise please give me any info you can about your Lickfold ancestry. I should then be able to locate your branch in my database.
I'm delighted you've got in touch and I look forward to our future correspondence.
Warmly
Gordon

Hi Clincher
Thanks ever so much for this reference. Yes I do know Judith (Jude) Banger. She lives near Southampton. But thanks for noting the refs for me.
Lickfold is a very rare name, so material about it doesn't come yup very often. I just wish more people would remember it, as you have, so that when that refs comes up (especially if it's outside West Sussex or western Surrey) the name might ring a bell.
Thanks again

Gordon,
There is a Lickfold family in Chadwell Heath. I know of the daughter (age about 30) who lives near me, and she said she moved from Chadwell Heath, where her parents still are.
But I dont know her well enough to either ask her about her ancestors, or explain to her about Rootschat.
And I dont feel it right to post her name and address here for all to see, without her permission.
But every time I see your posting headed 'Lickfold', I think I must tell you I have come across some.
So, if you havent already come across Lickfolds in Ch Heath, you may like to follow up this lead.
