I'm came across some information that my great grandfather and his brother were apparently in a Boys home in Toronto. Apparently there is a book out but can only be seen in the big toronto library, cannot get it on interloan.. does anyone know of this boys home?? The names were Emalie Beggley and Alex Beggley, why they were there is beyond me??? thanks Karen

Karen, I can't help you with direct info but may I make two comments:
When did all this happen? have you an approximate date for the two boys being there?
If you emailed the Toronto Public Library and asked them the name of the book you believe they have and also asked them the full name of the Boys Home- and maybe its location you might then be able to pusue that.
I think people need more facts if they are going to be able to help with answers.
Good hunting,
charlotte

Price: $11.95 USD
Photos throughout. The first church supported home for children in South Carolina dating back to 1850. Located in York, South Carolina. 1st Edition. Illustrator= / Publisher=York, South Carolina Episcopal Church Home 1987
Were they British Home Children ?? .... have you checked 1901 census ?
-
hi
thanks for answering, but I think the home was call Toronto Boys Home and was located in toronto, and I found it on the 1901 census?? but the spelling is different, he his spealt as Emalie Beggley born Dec 10 1890, he was 10 years old when he was in there with is brother Alex, now the interesting part is why would they be there??? there was 4or 5 other siblings at home??? Emile married my great grandmother in 1911.
I hope this is enough information?? I don't have a direct date of when they were in there and for how long??? all I found was the census that gave the first hint that they were in a boys home???
The book is called -135 years of caring: the boys home 1859-1994, and there is only 1 book and its at the toronto public library.. again thanks for any help Karen

Alexander died in 1900? :-\ do you have the death information? & see that you do have all the marriages, then.

It could be the new husband might not have wanted the boys...do you have the rest of them in 1901...?
Do you have Anne as a Cormack, McCormack on a census?
Odd that the birdates of the boys on the 1901 are nowhere near the correct months or days

::) Ah, knew I'd find something relevent to your request sooner or later...Perhaps the wee lads were having trouble
with the recent death of father and then marriage of their mother...( still way too young to institutionalize, but then that was the age of punishment...Now are the days of "toysRUS" which is the other dark side of the coin )
