Overtime I have gathered birth,marriage,death certificates as well as census pages.
All this documentation has other names on it. Particularly the census pages which all seem such a wasted resource.
For instance I have a copy of an 1821 (yes 1821) Marylebone census page covering Norfolk Street which has the following names on it.
COX - HALSON - CLARKE - BARTLETT - PATTEN - WRIGHT - KING - BRIDGES - (wait a minute I'm interested in that name!! never noticed it before) - PAIN - DODD - WILSON - EDWARDS - SHORTLAND - BURROWES - BAXTER - STEVENS - MARTIN - HUTCHINGS - GODDARD - HORSEFALL - COLLARD - MATTHEWS.
The 1821 only lists the surname(s) the head(s) of the families together with the number of males and females so it's not possible to find individual members. Later census pages list all the family members by name.
No doubt all subscribers to RootsChat would have similar 'wasted resources' .
I wonder how such can be put to good use?

If it's no bother would you let me have the details of the BURROWES on from the 1821 Marylebone census ,please.

G'day Sheila,
You probably know that the 1821 for Marylebone only has the 'family name' and the number and gender of the people living there.
What I see on a very poor copy is the BURROWES family living at number 14 Norfolk Street.
The breakdown is;
Families occupying house: 1
Males in house including children exclusive of soldiers and sailors: 2
Females in house including children:2
Males: 1 under 5 and 1 over 30
Females: 1 between 5 and 10 and 1 over 30.
Not much I'm afraid.
If you want to know where Norfolk Street was then well it was adjacent to the Middlesex Hospital.

Many thanks Joyboy. It is the right area so I'll have a look to see if I can match the details to my Burrowes.These little bits add up to the bigger picture.

As you know Redwood the info on Marylebone 1821 was very scant.
Anyway what I can read from a very bad copy is;
The house was no.24 Norfolk Street
The head of the house was 'COLLARD'
There were 3 families in the house
9 males and 6 females inclusive of children comprising;
I male aged under 5
3 males aged 20 to 30
3 males aged 30 to 40
2 females aged 0 to 5
1 female aged 5 to 10
1 female aged 20 to 30
2 females aged 40 to 50
Norfolk St ran alongide the Middlesex Hospital.
Hope it helps.

Hi Pettsey,
The COX family are the 1st (top entry) on the single page that I have and the copy is not at all good (black edges) but I think I've got them.
They lived in New Steet Mews Stables (sic) either next door to or in the same dwelling as my own ancestors.
The entry says;
1 family of 4
2 males 1 under 10 and 1 under 40
2 females 1 under 10 and 1 under 40
I hope that it fits your needs,
