Hi Erika,

There is a marriage for a William GLEDHILL Dec q 1846 Wakefield 22 148 and a marriage for Sarah ELVIDGE Dec Q 1846 Wakefield 22 641.  I've checked the images so they don't appear to have married each other!  Do you have any further information eg. birth certificates of one of the children or census records?

Do you have reason to believe that they may have died in Lancashire?

Jean

A couple of possibles for Sarah in 1841 are in Nottingham and Sheffield, but this one seems closest, not with parents though. Birthplace South Kirkby about 11 miles from Wakefield

Just had another look at the images, and Barbara you are right - it is 22 648 for both but some of the pen strokes are very faint!

Hi Jean,

The GRO images are much clearer usually than the freebmd ones, as I found when doing some transcribing for them
 ::)

I have sent in an amendment, so hopefully in future Sarah will appear as a spouse on the same page as William

Sincere thanks to both Barbara and Jean for your response to my question regarding William Gledhill and Sarah Elvidge.Williams grandson William Henry is my grandfather who was born in Victoria, Australia.I have been trying to collate some information about forbears for my 84 year old father and had come to a standstill.My fathers 92 year old cousin passed away last week and I promised his family I'd try and gather some details. Their father was the son of John Elvidge Gledhill also born in Victoria Australia.So once again thanks for your assistance.Erika

Hi Erika,

Good luck with that, as I said, you may need the marriage certificate to learn a little more and get further back with the family

Kind regards,
Barbara
