Not sure if this should be here or in the beginners bit.
The family I'm hunting are of italian descent
We have one born in Aberdeen in 1908 and Parents marriage is given as 1895 In Italy (possibly Cervaro but I havent deciphered the writing too well) Mothers maiden name appears to be Di Camillo.
The family story is that they landed at Preston and came via Venezuala where he'd been working on the railroads.
Now where should I be looking next.
I haven't found them on the 1901 census, but at the moment am really just trying to fill out some details as my sons class are doing family trees as part of their victorian project.
Any tips on where to look would be appreciated.

Hello Pusskin,
I would suggest that you first enlist our help to decifer your ancestors' surnames and place of marriage. Can youscan and then electronically crop out the sections of any documents showing these names/place names and then post them here?
Once we have established the family surname, then you might like to post to the census board and request help in finding them.
It would be very useful to have all the names and dates that you have, as well as any addresses. Do you have a birth cert for the Aberdeen birth? Do you have vague ideas about their movements after 1908?
The family should be recorded in the 1911 census. That will be step three.
Hope your son has also seen the Victorian farm programme on the Beeb. We all love it.

The problem with the 1911 census is that by then they were in Aberdeen and the scottish 1911 census wont be released till 2011.
This is the couple who came into the U.K and that I can't seem to find anywhere until the birth of their son in Aberdeen in 1908.
If anyone has any iseas I'd be very grateful.

It does look like Cervaro to me - here are some form letters for writing to Italy to ask for

If they did come via Venezuela they might be on the shipping lists, but if they came in from Italy they would probably not be (lists for ships from European ports were not recorded).
Is the surname "Vicca"? I can't find any naturalisation records for them, but I do think they are in Sunderland in the 1901 census, indexed as:
Tornocenzo Vicca (31, b. Italy FS, Ice Cream Vendor)
Antonia Vicca (27, b. Italy FS)
Zereza Vicca 1, b. Durham.

That could well be them Zereza would match to Teresa. I've just been told she was born in england.
Thank you.
I may see if I have any luck with the italian forms.
Thanks again
