Can anyone find an Alfred ILLSLEY in Berkshire in the 1841 census. He was born about 1837. I do not know any details about his parents, but his brother Thomas (born about 1829) may still have been living with the family in 1841. Any help would be very much appreciated.

The surname seems frequent in the county, but none born in a 2 or year span of your date - other than an Adam in Bray .... whats the source of your info ?
Certificate / Later Census ?
-
The IGI has an Alfred James ILsley baptised in Reading, 1834 - parents James & Susan.
-
Many thanks for the info - I've got him in later censuses, in particular I know he was living in Paddington London in 1881, and he appears on a birth certificate (as the father) in 1863, although this of course does not give his birth place - the census does purport to do so. However I think I might have drawn a blank here - in any event many thanks for your time and help - much appreciated!

Hi Ron, 1871 is a bit more specific ..... and if you can get his Marriage Cert to Sarah, you'd have his Dad's name ..

Hi both,
His age seems to vary on census. First of all, the 1881 census transcription has him age 44 but looking at the image, it looks more like 49. He's 42 in 1871 (born Hellatingford?) as far as I can tell and I spotted a possible candidate in 1861, aged 34 born Chosely.
Newf - can you have a look at RG10/47 15 21 and RG9/752 63 13 - do you think they're the same family? :-*
Oops! ;)

In 1891, Alfred sr is age 63 (born 1828), born Reading.
If Thomas is 37 in 1861 then maybe these are the christenings?
Alfred Ilsley - 26 Nov 1826 Cholsey
parents William and Margaret
Same IGI batch, same parents:
Vincent, 16 May 1819
Henry Thomas, 5 July 1821
Thomas, 29 Feb 1824

pleasure Ron - if you get that Marriage Cert, we can try and find Sarah's origins ..... a few too many of them in the area to be sure from the 1851 census !
