This photo has been emailed to me. It has B. Hibbard written on the back but its not any of the B. Hibbards in my tree. Would any of the brilliant people here be able to give me a date for the photo, have a guess on how old he is and also any information about what type of uniform he is wearing please.

well....... He is a sailor from the Royal Navy with a Good Conduct badge showing on his left arm. As for date it could have been taken anytime from the 1st ww but I would suggest that this may have been either a photograph taken between the wars or during the 2nd.

It would be helpful to see the entire thing, scanned in colour, and also a scan of the back if possible. Because there aren't many clues available in the clothing, we may gain additional clues from toning of the picture, photographer's stamp, type of mount etc....

This picture wasnt in a mount, and as far as I know just how it is now. The lady who sent them to me sent another 3 pictures with it, she found them just floating at the back of an album. We are both researching Hibbards but can't place the people. Sorry I'm not much help but thanks for your reply.

My Hibbard's go back to 1801 "John Hibberd" was born in Leckford. His father was Richard Hibbard. Sorry that's just back ground.
The family have that dark curly'ish hair. Sadly I don't recognise the man in your Photo but he does have a familiar face.
Please let me know if you identify him.

As he's perched on a bit of Art Deco furnature 1920's I would suggest.If later I would expect a photo of better quality.
