Title: date of photo
Post by: sallylynne on Thursday 22 January 09 20:05 GMT (UK)
I would love to know  a date range for this photo. It could either be my g grandmother or gg grandmother. I would appreciate any suggestions
Thank you

Hi Sallylynne.
I can't date this for you but you try to find the photographer on a census. If he is on two census that would give you a ten year period.

Hope this helps.

Malcolm,

Hi Sallylynne  :)

I would say that the style of the lady's dress dates from the mid 1880s  :)

Yes, mid-to-late 1880s but before 1889 when a different style of shoulder seam came into fashion. Lovely photo. If you would like it restored, which would make it even nicer, please scan it at 300 dpi in colour mode, to get the sepia effect. You will need to rename the file, but adding a letter or number to it will do.

Cheers,
China

Thanks for all your help. I am sending a re scan of the original photo. It scans poorly. The original is very faint, brown and yellow tone, but the scan comes out blue! The back of the photo card has nothing on it, and the size is about 4 1/4" x 6 1/2". Is this consistent with the 1880's?
