Title: Help Needed in Deciphering 1846 Birth Cert.
Post by: pdm106 on Thursday 22 January 09 18:05 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me decipher a word which appears under the column 'Name and Surname of Father'.  The name is "James Dunn" but there is a word in brackets underneath the name which I cannot decipher.  Image attached - I was unable to post the whole cert. due to file size restrictions.

I think it says deceased ie it was a postumous birth, would that be right had James died?

Hi

I think it says "Deceased" meaning that the father died while the mum was pregnant and the child was posthumous.

I agree with deceased...

You could try looking for the mum and child in 1851 - she should be a widow if we're correct.

Many thanks everyone for your input - I've just found James Dunn's death in 1845.

I think we can say this one is now solved!
