Can I be very cheeky and ask if anyone might be going here at any point? I've been told their records are computerised and was hoping they're not too hard to look up. I did try emailing them and asking nicely but sadly got a pretty standard 'we can't help' in reply.
I'm trying to trace records for my dad's aunt known as 'Kitty' McAdam. Her first name may have been Catherine or Kathleen. I'm almost certain her baptism would have taken place in St Finbarr's. She was born about 1914 or 15 and was the daughter of Ellen Hayes and Hugh Curtis McAdam. I have a copy of her parents marriage which took place in the church in 1913. I was also hoping her own marriage took place there, as I'm trying to trace dad's cousins and without knowing her married name it's very difficult. I believe she may have married quite young, about 1934-ish but this is conjectural. (Basically I'm relying on McAdam not being a very common name in the Cork records since her dad was from Scotland.)
If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful

Hi Lora,
Saw your message yesterday and was going to St. Finbarrs Church Dunbar Street this morning to look up some items.
I met the most helpful archivest. He checked all the records for Catherine or Kathleen Mc Adam (even MacAdam) with both parents names but nothing came up I'm afraid. Nothing for a birth or a marriage. As you said all their records are computerised which is really helpful. When he finds a record it gives you the record number on the archive books and then you get all the extra details. He did get the marriage of Hugh McAdam and Ellen Hayes.
address 25 Sullivans Quay. I presume if you already have the marriage cert you will have all the details -
Parents names Witnesses if not let me know.
I will be there again in a couple of weeks and will have another check.
There is another site you might check it's www3.telus.net/public.mtoll it's Mary's geneaology site scroll down a good bit and on your right hand side you will come across Ireland then go into civic registrations 1845-1958
there is a Catherine McAdam listed as birth Oct-Dec 1916 Cork. This might help you could write to the Births Marriages and deaths records office in Cork to request a birth cert.
Hope that helps
Regards
Mary

Hi Mary
thank you so much, I really appreciate your help, especially out the blue like that :)
Since posting that message I had came across the Irish BMD index and had found the record for Catherine b. 1916. I'm pretty certain that must be her. I had still hoped that she might have a baptism record in St Finbarr's though. I also think I've found a son called Patrick b. 1915 who died a month or so later. I doubt there's any baptism for him either if there's not for Kitty.
I have the actual marriage certificate of Ellen and Hugh (sellotaped together in several places though lol) but thank you for getting it for me.
I still plan on going over to Ireland in the not to distant future especially now I've got the index records to make it easier.
Thanks also for the link to Mary's genealogy site, lots of useful resources to look through there.
If I can ever get anything for you in Glasgow please let me know ;D
thanks again, Lora

Hi Lora,
I gather this is a very, very late reply and you may not use this forum anymore, but I was googling names and discovered your posts.
My Great-Grandfather was Hugh McAdam, I am on the McAdam side of the family because of my Mother, who was Hugh’s son.
Feel free to get in contact, if you still use this site.
Best Wishes,
Laura.

Hi damnonii (Laura).
Are you still on the trail of the McAdams?
If so, I would be interested in getting in touch with you, as I am currently researching the McAdam & Hayes family line.

George
