Andrew Hunter Finlayson was born about 1822, this was his 2nd marriage
1st marriage was to Sarah Marshall (b abt 1823)
This marriage notice was in the Hobart, Tasmania, Australia newspaper "The Mercury"
The Mercury Monday Morning March 30 1874
MARRIAGE Finalyson - Drake
On 19, March at Union Chapel, by Rev J W Simmons, Mr Andrew Hunter Finlayson, sixth son of Mr Robert Finlayson, of Craig House, near Edinburgh, Scotland to Emily Eliza, fourth daughter of Mrs Drake of Seaford Little Swanport

Hi Garry
Scotlands People shows only 2 births fo an Andrew Finalyson 1820-1825 in Scotland. Only one has father Robert. Basic info is on the IGI:
Andrew Finlayson
Christening 3 March 1822 (as per SP) Dunblane, Perth.
Father Robert FINLAYSON, mother Margaret WHYTE.
If you pay for the scan of the original from SP it might hold some more information about the parents such as which parish they were from, place of residence, or occupation.
There are 7 children showing to this couple on the IGI.
The census records would show where the family lived, they can also be viewed on SP for a small fee.
As to Craig House, it is counted as part of Morningside now, the House itself being home to part of Napier University (formerly an Asylum - from 1894 - as part of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital). Until his death in 1881 it was home to John Hill Burton, the historian and author.
There was not a great deal else in the immediate vicinity in 1874, the villas of Morningside not being built for another 20 years or so. I wonder what was Robert's occupation?

I forgot to say Andrew's first marriage to Sarah Marshall was in Paddington, London, 18th June 1840 and is on the IGI, as are births of 2 daughters in Hobart Tazmania, but i'm guessing you know all about them!

Thanks Kirsty,
People have told us that our Andrew Finlayson was not a part of the Dunblane Finlayson's which was why I asked the question.
They said he lived in Dunblane all his life and never married.
Robert's occupation was a gardener from the info I have received.
Thanks again

It would make sense if he was a gardener to be at Craig House as there were a lot of nice grounds there, I used to go for walks around them when I was younger.
You might find something in the census records, obviously Andrew was not there unless he came up north from London before going out to Tazmania, but his father might well be. I don't have any credits to check SP just now, but i'm really interested to know what you find out!

Thanks for the help Kirsty
Unfortunately I have just had confirmation that Andrew Finlayson, son of Robert and Margaret Whyte, was on the 1861 census record with his family.
So the info on the IGI and want I had been previously given is incorrect.
Back to the drawing board now.
Will have to go the the archives in Hobart, Tasmania to check the arrivals.
Thanks
Garry

It is very frustrating - you think there would be someone researching our guy - Andrew Hunter Finlayson was the 6th son of Robert after all!
Anyway, if I find out anything I will let you know. Cheers, Kay
