Title: Help Baptism record Wexford
Post by: Ladyhawk on Tuesday 20 January 09 14:08 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Can anyone offer any help please.

I'm looking for a baptism record for Catherine Leary b1848/50 Ireland. Pretty certain her father's name was Patrick Leary mother was also called Catharine b1814 Ireland.

I have just looked at 1911 census living in Lancashire Catherine b1848 place of birth is given as Modlin Town Co Wexford Resident.
Does anyone know where this is or if Modlin Town still exists today  :-\

Thanks
Ladyhawk :)

Monaleehill
Monalee
Monfin, Enniscorthy

Is this the same entry that was posted to the Rootsweb Wexford Mailing List ?  I believe a number of people who might be expected to know the area suggested Maudlin.

there's actually a place called 'Maudlintown' in Co. Wexford, it appears on Google maps - its very close to the town of Wellingtonbridge.

Thanks both for your quick reply and help.

Shane I think your right and it's Maudlintown Co. Wexford but has been heard/transcribed phonetically as Modlintown Co. Wexford on 1911 census.

Mary there's a strong possibility that one of the last three is correct as Catherine Leary b1850.

Thanks again, another step closer.

Ladyhawk  :)

If you contact Rev. Jim Fegan Adm, Bride Street Church Wexford Town to see if he has an entry of your ancestors marriage in the church register.  Bride Street is the Parish Church for Maudlintown in Wexford town.

Land is not disappearing at the rate that everyone seems to think it does. You need to be aware that there are more than two possibilities: i.e the two Maudlintowns previously mentioned, but also Maudlins Town.

Yours, etc.

Hi Ladyhawke

My wife's great great grandparents are Patrick & Catherine Leary, parents of Catherine (who marries William Scott Morland in 1875 in Liverpool).  I have just found your posts - did you get any further please?

My tree is on Ancestry - Astbury - my wife is a Morland descendant of William Scott and Catherine!

Best Regards
John Astbury
