Looking for information on William Dorward b1853, scotland, especially his parents. The dorwards maybe connected to the Findlay family, also from Scotland. (area not known at present). William was my gg grandfather, thanks.

do you have the day and month of his birth
and on the 1861 census there is 29 on 2 pages
so would need more info
that is on scotlandspeople
and on /www.familysearch.org
there is four people born 1853

Possible entry for William in the 1861:

Margaret Dorward 48, head, b. Monifieth
James Dorward 12, b. Monifieth
John Dorward    10, b. Monifieth
William Dorward 8 b. Monikie ( I wonder if this has been mis transcribed?)

I've checked earlier censuses just in case William's father was deceased by the 1861 census. The most likely entry taking the James age 12 as a check is this one - everyone showing as born in Monifieth:

George Dorward 40, hammerman
Mary Dorward 39
James Dorward 2
John Dorward 4

Address: Monifieth Village Angus

It would be good for you to check the original image for this entry. 'Marg.' sometimes is transcribed as Mary in error, also the John showing (compared to the 1861 entry) should be 4 months (?) rather than 4.

I think this is the corresponding entry for the above family in 1841:

George Dorward 25, hammerman
Margaret Dorward 24

There is a marriage/banns showing on the OPRs for a potential marriage for George and Margaret:

GEORGE DORWARD Marriages:MARGARET WEBSTER on 09 FEB 1840 in Monifieth, Angus

Hopefully you will be able to verify at least father's name/occupation from William's marriage cert. in  England (?).

thanks very much for the info. All must be correct family, due to William b1853 naming some of his Children's middle name as Webster. Thanks again for your time.

Any connction to beattie family... trying to find why Findlay is in fathers middle name.. also some Dorward family connction. In Montrose Scotland
