Hi,
I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents, grandparents, siblings and children of Boaz Rossiter who was born in the Dudley area circa 1845.
Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.
Best wishes

Hi lizdb,
Many thanks for that.
I did a search on FreeBMD before posting and found the same thing.
I was hoping to find Boaz's parents in the census to see if they could be found in both areas to prove that they had moved from one area to the other.
Is it possible to post details of any of the Rossiters in that area please? I have a sizeable database and its possible I have their ancestors in it but am missing the vital link.
Best wishes

Sorry? Do we know who Boazs parents are then?
If you tell me their names, ages etc I'll have a look in 1851
Or are you just wanting any Rossiters in Wigan? Dont know the area myself, so wont pick up on those round about (what county is Wigan in?)

Hi lizdb / jamajo,
Unfortunately, I don't know Boaz's parents.
I do have some Wigan Rossiters but don't know if they are related.
I recognise Ellen with son Ralph but am not sure about Joseph the moulder.
I have Solomon & Eliza in my database and have them listed with 2 children but don't know who their parents are or if there are any descendants from sons Solomon and William ( born 1842 - not listed)
The name Boaz seems to come from Somerset and I wonder if a member of a Somerset Rossiter family moved to Dudley to set up a family. Boaz could be a son of that family member.
Hope this helps.

You only course of action is to get Boaz's birth cert.

Hi lizdb/jamajo(Sue)
This could be Joseph Rossiter & Sarah Lowe who married in West Bromwich in 1839.
Joseph is from Somerset and could be the missing link.
Do we know where Solomon the father is from please?
Best wishes

Hi lizdb/jamajo(Sue)
Did a bit more digging and found Joseph Elias Rossiter born circa 1819 in Paulton.
He has a brother Boaz born circa 1829 so it looks like Joseph could be the father of Boaz, who is named after his brother.
Looks like Boaz was born in Dudley but died in Wigan.
Thanks again for all your help. Looks like we can wrap this one up.
Best wishes

A bit dangerous to base all that on assumption with no certs!
We dont even know if the Boaz death in Wigan was a child - could have been an old man!
-
Hi lizdb,
You are absolutely right but Boaz is a very unusual name and I have accounted for every Boaz on the IGI, Familysearch, Ancestry, Rootsweb Worldconnect, FreeBMD etc.
With Joseph being from Somerset with a brother named Boaz, marrying in West Bromwich, living in Wigan with a living daughter recorded on the 1851 census but no sign of Boaz, it's a reasonable bet that this is the correct family.
If Boaz James was a man I would expect more evidence of his existence and there does not appear to be any.
Best wishes

I believe that Solomon Roseter (Rossiter) went with his son to the US of A, as can be seen here https://history.churchofjesuschrist.org/overlandtravel/companies/92/moses-clawson-company. I noticed somewhere that Solomon came from Somerset, possibly Mells or Wells. Hope this helps. Robert Worrall

Hi Velocibob,
Thanks for that. I'm still piecing this line together. Sadly I had a stroke about 11 months ago and it has affected my memory. I'm just trying to see where this family fits into the scheme of things with the Rossiter family. Thanks again for your help. Stay safe, rcuser

Sorry to hear about your stroke and hope you are improving.

Thanks for the good wishes and the posts.
Have the Boaz info which matches with yours. Death In June Quarter at Wigan Registration District.
Have 12 children in this family but some may well have died in infancy.
