Title: 1911 census
Post by: cass on Thursday 15 January 09 09:28 GMT (UK)
Hi, I notice that the 1911 census is on line but not for Cumbria. Cannot find any info about when it may be added. Does anyone know anything about it?? Cass ???

A date hasn't been given yet.  They have a blog

http://blog.1911census.co.uk/

and if you are signed up for updates from the site, then you will get an email informing you when new stuff is added (at least that's what I'm led to believe)

Sorry i couldn't be more helpful, I really need Cumberland to try and crack a huge brick wall

Hi,
I'm researching the NICHOLSON family in Cumberland.
I emailed the 1911 census website and they said Cumberland should be online within one month.

Thanks Kate, just went on all excited but to no avail. Have spent my 60 credits (not cheap) and got nothing. The family I am looking for seem to have vanished of the face of the earth. On other members there are too many to choose from and I chose the wrong ones!!!!! :'(

I was looking for James Fagan born in ireland in 1867. He married Sarah and lived in Workington. I could not find him on the 1901 census (but found Sarah and the family still in Workington) and now cannot find him on the 1911. I know he was still alive because he did not die until the 1930's. Also I was looking for John Joseph Sloan born in cumberland in 1875. I think in 1901 he was in the Durham area. I was looking for him because he was my great grandfathers brother and there was a John Sloan shot at dawn in the first world war and i am trying to ascertain if it was my rel. Wil wait until I have more time, and money!!, to sit down and think it out carefully to try and see which might be the correct ones. Thanks

Thanks Oly, i went back on and could not find it then i put less detail in and found it. I had put down his place of birth (ireland) and thats when it did not come up. What worries me is that it might not be the right one because he was definately born in ireland. Might it mean that he did not put a birth place on the 1911 census??

Thanks Geoff, found that, eventually, might get his marriage cert so i can find his fathers name to confirm. Then hopefully can find his enlistment into the army for the 1st world war
