I have been on Rootschat before looking for info on my great-grandparents, Daniel McNerlin and Margaret Barr. I got some info. - thanks to all concerned - but hit a bit of a brickwall , so took a rest. But the 1911 Census was published today and I have discovered for the first time that my grandfather, Daniel McNerlin Jn, was born in Aghadowey. ( We were unable to obtain his birth cert). As his parents were married in Finvoy Presbyterian Church, I assume that he would have been baptized in a Presbyterian Church serving Aghadowey. Can anyone please suggest which church this might be or, dare I hope, have access to the relevant baptism records? Daniel was born on the 17 June 1881.

Daniel, son of Daniel McNerlin & Margaret Barr, born 17 June 1881, bapt. 4 Sept.1881 Aghadowey Presbyterian Church.
-
Many thanks Aghadowey, though you might have made it look a bit more difficult!
Is there any other interesting info on the record - adddress, father's occupation (probably smith/farrier), etc?
-
Have posted the complete detail in the register. At that period townland was not listed as in earlier baptisms (although earlier ones didn't list mother's full name).
Do you know the actual townland where he was born?
-
No, I'm afraid the census only refers to Aghadowey. However, I'm pleased with that level of detail as we hadn't a clue were he was born before today. We know that his brother, James was born in Rasharkin in 1878 and we believe that he had another brother ("Sandy") and sister ("Molly"?) but we have no dates or locations for them.
Thanks for your help.
-
Come to think of it, does anyone have access to therecords of the church that would have served Rasharkin?

Hi Ollie
Sorry I have been out of RootsChat for a while as well - especially since my email box was spammed! I met this lady on facebook recently and she sent me this message:
Hi
I'm just wondering if we are related, I have loads of relatives over in Northern Ireland that I've never met.....McNerlins, Gillespie's, Robinsons... My Grandad was Sandy McNerlin he moved over to England when he was a young man, most of his brothers and sisters have died now and I've kind of lost track of the McNerlin family tree! These are some of his brothers and sisters....Gwen, Rea, Eddie, Matty, Maggie, Danny, Johnston...there are others but I can't remember!
If these names are in your family ree - send me a persona;l message and I'll put you in touch.
Regards
Betty

I may be able to help your "Facebook Friend" with Gillespies, especially if they were from the Limavady/Eglinton area.

Dear Kingskerswell
The lady is from Redditch and would appreciate some help - it looks like that is where some of Daniel's relatives are from as well. Don't know anything about the Gillespies. What shall I ask her or even better, what have ye got to offer???
Regards
Betty

Dear Kingskerswell
I contacted Joanne on Facebook and her reply was:
"Oooh yes send it all to me, that'd be great xx"
Shall I PM you her email? Or do you want to publish it here on Rootschat? Or maybe post it?
Regards
Betty

Please use PM to exchange email addresses and other information which you aren't allowed to post on Rootschat.
-
Thank you Aghadowy for the timely reminder.
I was referring to the extract, but I didn't word the reply very well.

Hi Betty,
Yes, please PM my e-mail address to your contacts and I will do my best to help. As well as the family to which I have a tenuous connection I have information on other Gillespies in the Limavady area.

Just wondering if one of the Gillespies was a Martha Campbell Gillespie who married a Samuel Baird?, Baird family are my relatives.
-
Murphy1,
Yes, Martha Campbell Gillespie does appear in the notes I made while doing some research for a cousin.. She married Dr. Samuel James Baird in St. Canices Eglinton Church of Ireland on 10 Jul 1893. She was born in 1865 to John Gillespie and Anna Maria Watson.

Fathers' names and occupations should be listed on the marriage certificate. You can view it on GRONI's website after registering and purchasing a few credits-
