I am researchin my wife's granfather Albert TYRRELL b c.1881. He is proving elusive as I was hoping to find out where and when he was born in 1911 Census. Unfortunately he is not listed but his wife Rose Helena and children are. - 9 Adela House Kensington London. He does not appear elsewhere on the census.
She was pregnant at the time with his 5th child and they had two more before he enlisted in November 1915 and was stationed in India until 1919.
It is possible that he was in prison during the 1911 Census. Where can I find prison records or failing this any ideas where he may have been.
Thanks Frank

Do you have his parents names?
There is a 10 year old Albert Terrell in Camberwell in 1891?
He seems to have married Rose Helena Matthews in Sept qtr 1903 in Kensington. The marriage cert. would give you information if you do not already have it.

Frank & Maureen, do either of you know Albert's occupation? He could have been travelling for work.
I know people have found relatives in prison in 1911, so if he was there he should still show up.
-
hello, Yes, he was a gas purifer, as was his father William
-
Thanks everyone. I have been away for a few days and haven't looked at my thread. Maureen I have sent you a personal message. Jennifer C you have made me feel pathetic. I never thought to use a different spelling for Tyrrell because it's unusual. I have done it for lots of other relatives and it is good sense so Ta V much.

Hi Frank
Did you solve the mystery of Albert Terrell?
My grandfather, William Terrell, had a brother, Albert, who was born in Bermondsey in 1881.
There were at least eight children and their parents were George and Harriet.
George had been born in Cerne Abbas, Dorset in about 1840.
I have more information and would be very happy to share it.

According to baptism the Albert of George and Harriet , George was a Tanner.

This. Albert is with his married sister Emma Castle nee Terrell in 1901 census.

Removed as incorrect information.

But the Albert Terrell who is living with his sister, Emma Castle, in the 1901 census (and who happens to be my grandfather's brother) is a printer - not a purifier. I suppose he could have changed jobs.
-
Henry William Castle married Emma Terrell 1898 - marriage cert shows her father as George Terrell occ ?? farmer/joiner??
A Charles William Terrell was a witness
On the 1903 marriage cert for Albert & Rose - his father was William Terrell - occ gas purifier
-
In that case, the Albert Terrell who is Emma Castle's brother is defintely not the same Albert who's father was William Terrell, a gas purifier. They might be related though.
George Terrell, born 1840 at Cerne Abbas was a tanner, sometimes described as a skin dresser.

Have removed this information as not correct.

Hmmmm. The mystery deepens. MY George's parents were Thomas (born 1801 Cerne Abbas) and Mary, nee Brownsey.
-
I think what has happened is two posts have joined but not giving the correct information.
Albert - parents George (Tanner) and Harriet was bapt 30/3/1881 St James Bermondsey. Albert was a printer. Possible marriage Mary Hibbert. This Albert is the one living with his sister Emma Castle in 1901.
Albert - parents William (Gas worker) & Elizabeth bapt 7/5/1882 St John the Evangelist Kensal Green married Rose Helena Matthews address on army records Kensal Green.
So George the Tanner is correct for parents Thomas & Mary Brownsey.
