Title: LITSON / HOWSEGO
Post by: babygirlbill on Tuesday 13 January 09 12:43 GMT (UK)
Following a previous post on my Howsego family I have found out a little bit more information and am now looking for relatives in the Howsego/Litson family.

My great grandad was George Howsego, born 1904 in West Ham, his mother was Emily Howsego (nee Morris) and he had numerous brothers and a sister: Arthur, William, Albert and Martha. His father was William Frederick Howsego which is sometimes registered as Frederick William.

In 1911 Emily Howsego was living with her children in West Ham, but the head of the house was John Litson, who she went on to marry in the 1st Qrt of 1923. However, William Frederick Howsego did not die until the 4th Qrt of 1923. So i assume that they divorced at some point.

This is the only info i have on the Howsego side of my family and would really appreciate any help.

I might be barking up the wrong tree but I have found the following after just entering Howsego to Morris marriage

Frederick Howsego
married
Emily Morris
West Ham reg district
Dec qtr 1898

I have tried to access the divorce papers at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk, nothing came up but I suspect it is me, give it a try as something might come up, I found one for myself between 1916 and 1922 so I know it is possible if it has been registered if there was one.

Did you get the 1923 death cert to see who registered the death, that would be of interest as would her marriage to Mr Litson.

Also just to throw a spanner in the works, would she have married bigamously?, I found one where the female did just that in my husbands family, not mine of course !!,

Just thoughts

Hi Louisa

Thank you for replying.  No you arent barking up the wrong tree, I do have a marriage certificate for Emily and Frederick, and that is the right one that you have found.

I didnt think to look at who registered Fredericks death (which is a bit dumb of me actually!) but yes i thought she could have married bigamously, nothing surprises me with my family!! the other half of my tree were Romanys, so they tended to tell a few white lies here and there  ;)

I will have a look on national archives, so thanks again

just out of curiosity do you know if the Mr. Litson in question had any brothers devon way, just my grandfather may be able to help seeing as he is a Mr. Litson and it isn't exactly the most common of surnames.
