Title: Badcock -Abingdon
Post by: alison2763 on Monday 12 January 09 04:55 GMT (UK)
Having found Paul Badcock's Parents { with help from you all }, I was wondering if anyone could lookup his parents for me?
Paul was born 1825 Abingdon.
His parents were Richard BADCOCK b  abt 1796 and Edith PARKER b 1798. They were married 19.5.1818 in Abingdon. I have all their childrens details that I need. I am after their  birth/baptisms and their parents names.
Thank you all

This one sounded familier - I found this other thread

Given that the first son was named Joses,  and the Richard that was born in Shrivenham's father was Joses it seems a good bet

Hi Alison

I am still working on it   :)

It seems that Joses Badcock married Mary Badcock (it was her maiden name too) in 1794 in Shrivenham,  they had their first son Richard there and then moved to Radley,  where they had John 1797, Mary 1800, Sophia 1801, Susannah 1803 and Eliza in 1806.

Joses was buried in Radley in 1818 aged 46,  but Mary not until 1861 aged 91.  I think I have found her in 1851 in Ensham

Mary Badcock 81  head wid victualer woman born Fifield Berks
Elizabeth Wells 49  visitor Un born Meriden Warks
Sophia Wells 49  dau wid born Radley Berks
Sarah Anderson 27  serv

Ohh Great Galium - just what we needed,  I saw the baptism in 1771 on the IGI but it's wrongly transcribed as JON - I was thinking it would be worth getting someone to check it

 :)

Are there any earlier Badcock entries in Shrivenham at all - I have found Johns buriel in 1821 aged 89 so he would be born about 1732

The first Badcock marriage is that of John and Susanna, and the first baptism that of their daughter Mary.  The transcripts I have go back to 1575.  [Unfortunately I don't have burials, which would be useful - the Shrivenham Framptons belong to OH's tree]

Hi Sue - I am sure they will fit somewhere   ;D

I have been looking further at the Stanton Harcourt lot

there are burials

1771 Richard Badcock
1772 John Badcock infant
1776 Joseph Badcock
1777 Mary Badcock

I think the 1777 Mary is Richrads wife as in 1778

marriage Oct 10th
Richard Badcock wdwr otp to Hannah Collins sp of Marcham
witnesses Elizabeth Badcock & Thomas Badcock  by lic

then it seems Hannah must have died - but I can't see a burial for her

marriage 1783 Jan 23
Richard Badcock wdwr otp to Lois Tooley sp otp
witnessed Mary Tooley & Richard Tooley  by lic

That's great Sue (not sure where they fit in yet)  :)

I think I have found the direct line though,  I thought that Joses & Mary Badcock that married were most likely related,  I have found -

A marriage In Oxford St Johns College in 1730 Oct 8th
Joseph Badcock of Wooten Berks to Elizabeth Greenaway of Kennington

Then a baptism at Besslesleigh
1731 July 11th John s/o Joseph & Elizabeth Badcock of Sandford St Helens Abingdon

Then some more baptisms from St Helens Abingdon for the children of Joseph & Elizabeth  Badcock - farmer of Sandford

1734 Elizabeth
1740 Thomas
1743 Richard
1745 Elizabeth
1749 Mary

So it looks as though John (married to Susannah Nobes) and father of Joses (b 1771) and Richard (married to Mary Kimber) and father of Mary (b 1769) were in fact brothers and they were cousins

 :)

I have now checked the marriage of Joseph & Elizabeth on the St Johns Coll transcripts but it doesn't give any further info,  however he was given of Wooten,  there is only one baptism for a Joseph Badcock at Wooten in the right sort of time frame (though there are others in nearby areas)

1704 Joseph s/o Joseph & Jane Badcock
- they also had a daughter Jane in 1702,  but I can't see any other children for them.

Joseph Badcock of Wooten married Jane Harding of Wooten 3rd Oct 1700 in South Hinksey

Burials from Wooten

1750 Mary d/o Joseph & Elizabeth Badcock
1753 Jane wife of Joseph Badcock
1762 Joseph Badcock
.
.
1773 Joseph Badcock of Marcham
1776 Elizabeth Badcock widow of Joseph of Marcham

Looks possible/likely

 :)

Ohh nice find Galium

It is very likely the John born 1766 (son of John & Susan nee nobes) is the one who married Charlotte Whitehorn then and those are their children, and her remarriage after his death

Do you have later registers for Cumnor?  I only have up to 1681,  there is a burial in 1679 of Margaret wife of William Badcock  and several earlier with reference to Badcocks of Wooten - I was wondering if there were any later ones

I also can't see a marriage for William to Margaret about 1665 which could be anywhere in the area

Since you mention Marcham - there's a 1729 will on the Wiltshire Wills database for Joseph Badcock, yeoman of Garford, Marcham.  He mentions a wife named Martha and children named Martha, Elizabeth, Mary, Joseph, Hannah, Sarah and Francis.

Hi - Yes I saw that

His son Joseph was baptised in 1702,  and there was a James & Mary who had a Joseph in 1696 and a Joseph & Sarah who had Joseph in 1706  all in Marcham and really any of them could be the one who married Elizabeth Greenaway in 1730,  I was going throught the burials to see if we could rule any of them out but not with much luck

Googling for Badcock +Shrivenham I came across a picture of Henry Frampton, a son of Richard Frampton and Mary Badcock  (marriage details in my first message on this thread, Mary being a sister of Joses) - not a close relation of course, but I thought you might as well see it  :) .

Thank you all so much for your help. I think we ca now safely say that  Richard BADCOCK b 1795 Shrivenham d 1845 Abingdon married Edith Parker b 1798 ?? dont know where d 1833 St Helens Abingdon in 1818 in Eynsham.
Richards parents were Joses BADCOCK b 1772 d 1818 in Radley and Mary BADCOCKE b 1769 Fifield d 1861 Radley.
Jose's parents were ?????
Mary's parents were Richard BADCOCKE b 1743 d 1814 Radley and Mary KIMBER b ?? d 1777 Stanton Harcourt  .
Does everyone agree with this? And does anyone have any information about Richard BADCOCKE and Mary KIMBER ? Also any information about Richards wife Edith PARKER ??
I have information about the Paul b 1825 Abingdon d 1900 Australia and his wife Sarah Teakle { Not much on her} and their families in Australia if anyone is interested. Paul was my 4 X great grandfather.

Hi Alison

- we do have Joses parents

Joses was buried in Radley in 1818 aged 46,

so born 1772 ish

Badcock baptisms from Shrivenham PR:

26 June 1765 Mary d of John and Susanna
26 October 1766 John s of John and Susanna
23 December 1768 Joseph S of John and Susanna
27 March 1771 JOSES  son of John and Susanna
12 June 1773 Elizabeth d of John and Susanna

23 February 1765 By licence
John Badcock
Susannah Nobes
Witnesses: Edward Young, Richard Pearce

I think it is very likely that Joses's parents were John Badcock & Susannah (nee Nobes)

John Badcock  (who married Susannah Nobes) was buried in Shrivenham in 1821 aged 89

So born 1732ish

I found a baptism
 at Besslesleigh
1731 July 11th John s/o Joseph & Elizabeth Badcock of Sandford St Helens Abingdon

I am fairly sure it is the same couple who then have baptised at Abingdon

1734 Elizabeth
1740 Thomas
1743 Richard
1745 Elizabeth
1749 Mary

and that that is the Richard of Stanton Harcourt and Radley we are looking at

Joseph & Elizabeth married in Oxford

marriage In Oxford St Johns College in 1730 Oct 8th
Joseph Badcock of Wooten Berks to Elizabeth Greenaway of Kennington

James Parker of Eynsham married Elizabeth Toner 7th Oct 1778 at St Aldgates Oxford

However I couldn't see any earlier reference to Parker in the Eynsham transcripts so I am no sure where James came from

He was buried at Eynsham in 1837 aged 77 (so born 1760 ish)

Elizabeth (nee Toner) was buried at Eynsham 1822 aged 62 (so also born 1760 ish)

Hi,
Just noticed the conversation abt the BADCOCK family . On my tree I have James Badcock married to Mary Bullock 1799 Fyfield Berkshire. I only have 2 daughters Sarah Caroline & Susannah.
Sarah Caroline married Samuel Lee Gale 1826 Oxfordshire. They had 2 sons John & Henry who both came to Aust. John in particular married into my Amies family here in Warwick Qld.
Any info on this family from other members who are connected or anyone who has info to share with me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Rae Warwick Qld.

Think I have a deed of sale somewhere for some land in Oxfordshire, sold by a Richard and William Badcock. It has their signatures and wax seal of some kind of bird on it.

Think it said that Richard lived in Radley and William in frilford in Marcham.

Assume it’s the same family
