Post by: pardy on Friday 09 January 09 10:42 GMT (UK)
I am looking for information on my two great uncle's who were sent to this orphanage when thier father died in around 1910. They were William John Smallwood B. 1903 and Joseph Horrace Smallwood b.1904. Thier parents were William Bozon Vavasour Smallwood and Edith Rebecca Smallwood nee Riddlestorffer. I would be grateful for any information.
Thanks

Bagshot is in Surrey, diocese of Guildford,  it might be a good idea to find the local records office to look at the orphanage records for that period, it will tell you if these boys were fostered and when they left the orphanage, this address may guide you

Surrey History Centre,
130 Goldsworth Road,
 Woking,

its a Housing Estate now, on the eastern border of Camberley - used to be accessed off the Portsmouth Road and The Maultway

some info here:-

The Old Boy's Association is in contact with some 140 former pupils from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA and Canada.  The Association holds reunions at which 80 pupils typically attend, and it's officers regularly deal with enquiries from grandchildren of former pupils seeking background information.

I know this was a few weeks ago, but just saw this thread. I took the liberty to look for these 2 children on the 1911 census, on the National Archives website. William John  Smallwood born 1903 aged 8 is in an Institution in Farnham, Surrey, and Joseph Horace Smallwood born 1904 aged 7 is living in a Household in West Ham, Essex.
You will have to pay for the full transcripts from FindMyPast website.
