Title: Kelly/Mc Gill/Magill Dublin
Post by: norh on Monday 05 January 09 11:53 GMT (UK)
Hello everyone,
I have recently found a number of family members but one remains elusive. (Lizzie Kelly)
Thomas Kelly married Norah Larrisey in Sandymout Dublin in 1892. The first child Thomas was born a year later1883.
On 1911 Census 6 kids were documented Thomas 28, Catherine 21, Patrick 15, James 14, Henry 11, Mary 5. The census stated 11 children had been born, 9 were alive. We also know that Arthur 16 & John/Jack 21 lived in Armagh at time of 1911 census. There was another sister called Lizzie but we have no record of her.
The first child Thomas was born in Dublin city. Catherine was born in Cobh/Queenstown Cork & Patrick born Co Wicklow. Its possible Lizzie was born in one of these 3 places. Can anyone help?
One family source says Lizzie emigrated - another said she married Mc Gill/Magill & lived in Dublin. I know there is a lot of information here to decipher but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again,
I was wondering if new information has been added to continue with this search all these years later.

I would still like to find anything about Lizzie Kelly.

Also can a birth date/certificate be found for Arthur Kelly, son of Thomas Kelly & Honora (Nora) Larrisey? They were married in Sandymount Dublin in 1882.

Arthur was 16 in 1911 census. I sent to Dublin for a certificate years ago but it is the wrong one. It said the family lived in Bride St Dublin but this is the wrong family

Recently I couldnt find anything on Family Search site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Norh

Just to add the family had two sons named Arthur
Arthur Joseph was born on Aug 24 1886 LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/cert_amends/cert_1886/1956759a.pdf)
He was baptised in Cloyne Parish on Aug 28 1886
Sponsors were James BALAM & Ellen WALSH
He is presumably deceased by 1892 when the second Arthur was born in 1892

Hi myluck,

This is fantastic I had no clue about 2 Arthurs!! I knew there was a Cork connection and this proves it. Brilliant. Much appreciated.

Are there records for any of the other siblings? Jack/John, Jim, Molly, Kitty, Lizzie, Harry, Paddy, Tom? These are the names I have but I dont have any proof. Just saw the 1901 Census you shared. Didnt realise they had moved around so much. Cork, Wicklow, Dublin, Belfast...

Including 2 Arthurs that makes 10 children. There were 11 mentioned on one of the Census records. Any idea what the other child was called?

Many thanks
Norh

Thank you kindly for taking the time and effort to help me out. I truly appreciate it
Kind regards,
Norh

No problem Glad to help
Happy hunting and continued research tomorrow!

By the way  you mentioned you found John/Jack on the census returns
Did it say where he was born?
I know this isn't always accurate, especially with a family that moved about, but it could help give you a starting place for searching

Also some sites only let you research the exact spelling and Norah Larrissey has many variants as you will see on the records. Even Kelly has a second e (Kelley) sometimes. This makes searching all the more difficult - persevere!

Let us know how you get on ;D

Hi myluck,
Ive now found 1o children.

Couldnt find Patricks birth cert. I found a Patrick born to Thomas and Norah Kelly in Rathdrum, Arklow, County Wicklow 1895. This is where the previous child was born. However the mothers maiden name was different. I was hoping this was the registrars error!! Ha but ill keep on searching.
Thanks again for your help

Well done - there were so many in Dublin I didn't even try!
Hope Patrick turns up soon!

Do you know did he marry?
The church record of his marriage might have his baptism record recorded!
To find this you'd probably have to contact the church but might be worth while

I was going to mention that one but went out for our walk  :)

The link to James 1897 doesn’t seem to work. I was trying to check the address.

Thanks.

Patrick fits re occupation of the father.

This birth for Henry also has a strange/different  surname for mother, Norah.

Hi again folks,

Yes heywood, I noticed the link to James didnt work but I found him. But I found him and his address was 108 Townsend Street South Dublin. DOB 25/1/1897. Elizabeth Reid from the same address was present at the birth.

Myluck I saved that birth because everything matched but the maiden name. But ill continue to search. Also Patrick did not marry. He was killed in action 29/1/1917 aged 21yrs

Bear in mind that their level of literacy could have been low or none
They might not have known how to spell their own name
With LARRISSEY it could have so many variations as well as LARAGY or similar
If you look the informant on the "possibles" is often not a family member this would add to the discrepancies.
The individual writing the record could mishear or use their variation each time.

Take care and continued success researching
Be careful this bug is very additive!

Thomas is shown on the census returns as from Co Armagh and on his marriage record with his father's name as also Thomas.  Added is "who is living" which may help!

Sandymount parish still hold their own records, they are not online
There is a possibility that the church recorded his mother's name also and even his parents home address.
This is where I would start

I'm helping a friend here in Australia.

Not sure if it's the same guy but his grandfather was John Joseph Leo Kelly.
He married a Gertrude Anastasia Long supposedly in Queensland but I can't find the marriage.
Any info appreciated.

There is an online tree that has a link to a marriage in 1907 in Wellington, New South Wales (transcript only) between (Leo) John Kelly and Gertrude Long
It implies he was born in Australia to a Patrick Kelly and Mary Ann Sheehan 1878

If this is proven he is not the same man as listed here b1890 in Dublin
