Title: 1871 CENSUS - LEWIN
Post by: Barbara F on Tuesday 08 February 05 21:42 GMT (UK)
Frederick Mortimer Lewin died in 1877 and his death was registered in Dartford.

Can someone find him for me in 1871 please?  He was born about 1799 and spent about 30 years in India.  He was a judge when he left India in 1847.  I do not know where he was born but when he married in1839 his father was named as Thomas Lewin of the Hollies, Kent  I believe this could be a house in Dartford.

Any help much appreciated.

Tricia
Thanks once again.  I now have some idea of where to look for his birth.

I don't know if you found Frederick's baptism but it was at St Mary Extra, Southampton 21st October 1798.
In addition Thomas & Mary had the following children baptised in the same parish

   22nd   Juyl 1792   Harriet
   18th   March 1804 Frances Eliza
20th   July 1806   William Charles James
   16th   October 1808 George Herbert

Goodness! It must be my week for getting replies to really old posts.

It is a long while since I looked at this part of the Lewin family and I didn't have those baptisms so thank you bearkat.  It looks as though I need to do a fair amount of updating of this part of my tree.

Chris I am afraid I know nothing about Julia Reeves.

Thank you bearkat.  Husband's ancestors did seem to live in some large houses!  Another example.

Thanks Jolee.

Since I posted this request in 2005 I have been able to follow up many of the branches of the Lewin family so I have a lot more information than I did then.  I have been helped of course because of the vast increase in online records but also managed to buy two huge volumes called the Lewin Letters which have lots of information in them.  Not necessarily all accurate mind you!
