Title: Gosforth 1851 or 1841 please
Post by: meg2 on Tuesday 08 February 05 21:20 GMT (UK)
Hello

If anyone is looking at either 1841 or 1851 for Gosforth ( and Whitehaven)  area could they look for  Mary Elizabeth Bryden (nee Turner, born around 1800 ish, maybe Scotland)

She married John Bryden (possibly around same age) I know they had  one son William Turner Bryden born 1824 other children I don't know about.
John was either  a Sailor or Tailor according to William's marriage cert.

Any info welcome,

Thanks  very much
 Cheers,
Meg

Great, many many thanks Jim.
This fits in well as I found a John aged 71 in the 1871 who is living with his daughter Bridget married name Teasdale, the best bit being that her daughter was Mary 'Turner' Teasdale! Another Turner link, (I've found three generations with 'Turner' as a middle name) this has to be him.
Thanks again,
Cheers
Meg

I am related to William Bryden, who was a Tailor - all hail from Dumfries in Scotland - if you want to chat about it and are still around, let me know.

Hi Meg2
I don't know if this item may be connected to your John Bryden
 Memorial Inscriptions, St Mary's Gosforth;
" James Bryden died 15th March 1849 aged 34 years. He was Surgeon of this parish 11 years. This stone erected by voluntary subscription of his friends by whom he was highly esteemed."

He would have been born abt 1815 and may have been a family relation .
