Title: Shoemakers Shop Bray 1930's
Post by: MackGenealogy on Sunday 04 January 09 19:43 GMT (UK)
Hi
Im trying to find records of a Shoemakers in Bray. It was owned/ran by a Samuel MACK and a John FARRELL and we were told it was on Main St and called Central Boot and Leather Store. This may not be exact as the info was from a very old relative. Although all his other info was perfect.

Any guidance as to where Id start would be great.
Thanks
Mack

Hi Mack,

Not many small shopkeepers tend to leave documents which will be found in record offices.

A search through old newspapers and parish magazines may reveal something as John and Samuel possibly advertised their business in them.

Directories often list businesses such as shoemakers. Perhaps someone will know of directories for that period that cover Bray.

Mack,

Some of the members of the Bray Cualann Historical Society may be able to assist you.

Try the Bray People too www.braypeople.ie/local-notes/bray-1712152.html

There's also the Bray Heitage Centre

Mack - I've sent you a pm with Bray shoe related entries from a slightly later Thom's directory.

Even though Thom's is a Dublin City and County directory it includes Bray. There's a sticky in the Dublin forum offering lookups in the 1922 and 1937 editions. Maybe post a copy of the query there..
