Hello,
I'd really appreciate an 1851 &/ 1861 census lookup for my g.g.g grandfather Edward Parker, as I'd like to find him with his family. I have him on all the subsequent censuses: he was born about 1842/3 in Giggleswick, West Riding.
In 1871 he is working as a farm servant at Farm House, Stainforth (which came under the parish of Giggleswick) - he may be here in 1861 as he would have been of working age by then. On all the later censuses he is a farmer at Rome Farm in Giggleswick. I'm wondering if his family lived here and it was left to him between 1871 and 1881 (there is a rumour to this effect in our family, but I'm very suspicious of these ;D). In 1871 there are also two Parker families of the right age to be Edward's family at Bell(e) Hill in Giggleswick. Sorry I can't be more specific with an address :(
Many thanks to anyone who can help,
Hannah

Hi Richard,
I haven't yet identified the owners of Rome Farm. The Parkers were tenant farmers there for over 100 years until 1906, when they were given notice to quit. It may be that the farm was either sold at that point or started to be farmed by the owner's family, although I haven't any further information yet.
Best wishes,
Hannah

This may be a bit late. Hope the relevant people see this. Rome Farm, Giggleswick was owned in 1767 by a family called Maudsley. Henry Maudsley, I believe. Dr Henry Maudsley of the Maudsley Hospital in London I think owned it later. All this would need to be checked.
There is a Maudsley DNA and family site on Facebook.
I am descended from a Maudsley family from Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Please check the information. I will contact a Maudsley descendant who has been there and operates the Facebook site.
