I am hoping that someone can help me, earlier this year I travelled to Bridport from the North of England to look up some family history, I now need any information from the Dorchester Record Office regarding my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather William Joliffe Ackerman b 1778 Bridport died 3rd February 1838 Bridport, there was a coroner's report on his death and I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help with this matter.
Many Thanks

You may be lucky and find that Dorchester have the record. The West Dorset Coroner is a keen historian, I know he has deposited some records at Dorchester, he also has some in his possession.
Not all the records survive, but I know Mr Johnston is keen that those that do, should be preserved. I have attended a couple of talks by him, and I remember him telling of rescuing one lot of Coroner's records from a skip, when a solicitors office was being cleared.

If there was a coroners report, you should be able to find something in the Dorset County Chronicle on film at the RO, I can't remember off the top if my head how early they go but I know I've got info for the early 1840's, there is also a Bridport paper on fiche down there but again I can't remember dates, probably as have only used it once, mind that was for the same person in the 1840's so might well be ok... I'm sure they used to be listed on their site but can't find it now.
