:) Hello all , could someone point me in the right direction please, Im trying to find my great grandfather in criminal records of gloucestershire , Heres the story , believe to have disappeared in 1860 ( I cant find a death ) so saying he went out to work and never returned. His name was Thomas Newman ,born 1838/40 in Dumbleton (then in gloucestershire) (Father Thomas, Mother Sarah) I believe he was caught stealing half a crown (2shillinga and sixpense) or 12/1/2 pense from a buthchers in Tewkesbury around 1850/55 Ive searched some immigrant ships that went to America because the story went that he went there in 1860. So far ive found nothing . please help . Thanks

Hello Signalman - I was just thinking of you today!!
Have you searched the gaol calendars yet?
http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/genealogy/Search.aspx
There are several Thomas NEWMANs - any idea whether any of them could be yours? It is possible to examine the records at the Archives and they often provide wonderful descriptions of the person concerned.
If you have already got details of the crime - where from? Any sentence mentioned? Could be that he died in prison - the regime was very hard in those days.
Kind regards, Arranroots ;)
