Searching for an Arthur Thomas - he is described on his marriage (in Dover) certificate in 1896 as "clerk, Army Ordnance Corps". I know he was in Dover with the Corps for some years.
If he was there in 1891 where would I look.

Hi Q, :)
Tell us his Dob, Wifes name, Fathers name etc, then maybe ::) we can find him on the 1901 census with his wife . That should then give enough detail to try and find him on the 1891 census for his location at that time.

DoB 1870 (no exact date) father was George Thomas. Arthur married Amy Kezia Kite at Dover parish church on 29 August 1896. The Thomas family came from Liverpool.

Could this be him ?
1891 Census RG12 Piece 2916 Folio 131 Page 33 Liverpool
Arthur Thomas b.abt 1870
Bording with a few others at the home of Mary Hunter - 156 Bedford Street,
Occupation looks like Telegraph Clerk....which fits with his later army role.

Hi adi1962,
Thanks a million - I had always assumed (fatal, I know) that Arthur had joined the army by 1891, as he had disappeared from the family home in Liverpool. Now I know where he was.
Now I have to trace him in Dover in the mid-1890s - he had left the army by 1896, but rejoined as a soldier in 1899 to fight in the Boer War.
The other Thomases aren't mine - Arthur was born in Liverpool and Amy born in Dover.
Again, many thanks

Hi Quarryman
I have sent you a PM with Amy and her family on the 1881 and 1891 census in case you do not have it.
