Title: Pit Pony
Post by: Big-Al on Monday 29 December 08 15:54 GMT (UK)
Can someone help this poor pit pony to look better.
He was working in the mines about the 60's and needs a spruce up.
Many thanks.

Your pit "pony" reminds me of the horse my Amish neighbour used to pull his plough. He was a brute when it came to work but he was such a gentle and loverly beast....as a kid I loved him and he used to be tolerant and let me ride on his back around his paddock even though he probably wanted to rest   :D Thanks for reminding me.

Hi t.hawksley,
The pony in the photo was a working pony. He worked underground in the main roadways hauling coal out and timber and other supplies in. At the time of the photo (1950's) there were classes in the "Horse of The Year Show" for pit ponies and this fellow and a stable mate of his were shown at Olympia.

Forthefamily,
Glad the photo brought back memories for you.

Thanks to you all for the improvements in the photo.
