Title: COMPLETED Gateshead streets
Post by: Riddlebrick on Monday 29 December 08 12:37 GMT (UK)
Can anyone tell me where abouts in Gateshead the following streets might have been.

Frankfort Street
Clarke Street

Both streets were in existance in 1885, but alas are no longer here.  I am trying to get a feel for the places my ancestors lived.

Thanks

Emma

Hello Emma,

Frankfort Street was just at the east side of the Redheugh bridge on the banks of the Tyne and running parallel to Cuthbert Street, which still exists.

Frankfort Street was just to the west of Redheugh Bridge Road. If you go to
http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm and do a post code search on NE82LR it will centre the map near the location of Frankfort Street which you can see on the 1919-1926 map. Still looking for Clarke Street which was near Greenesfield Terrace according to the 1881 census.

For Clarke Street enter the post code NE81PQ and the street is just to the left on the 1960-69 map, between Mulgrave Terrace. and the A6083.

Thank you both for that.

Both sets of parents were also born around that area, My father Greensfield Terrace and my mother in Stone Street.  So by then at least my family managed to say in the same vicinity rather than moving around the country.
