Title: William Cleghorn Edinburgh 1852
Post by: Mem B on Monday 29 December 08 01:43 GMT (UK)
Another of my ancient family photos which could do with a clean- up, please. It was taken before he left Liverpool for Melbourne on the "Ben Nevis" at the age of 18.

Regards,

1852, wow...a tintype? A paper copy of a tintype? 1852 is too early for a glass ambrotype...wow.

If it's a tintype the image will be reversed, left-to-right. Hopefully Prue will be along to see this, and if she doesn't I'll PM her...

You have some fabulous photos.

Cheers,
China

This is a scan of the original Daguerreotype which is held by another cousin in Aussie. On the back is written :-

William Cleghorn 20.8.1852  Left home on 18 Sept.

The family lived in Tynecastle, Edinburgh.

Fantastic! You don't see many daguerreotypes on here...you are very lucky to have it.
