Hello
Looking for a little help please
I may have found some Kent ancestors being listed in the 1901 and 1911 census listed as being born in Shorncliffe and another in St Margarets. I can find St Margarets-At-Cliffe which I presume is the same. I cant find anywhere called Shorncliffe apart from a military barracks. Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance

I dont think Shorncliffe is an actual dist or parish I think it was just the name of the barracks there,
It was near Folkestone and Sandgate

There is an area known as Shorncliffe, in Folkestone.
If you google Shorncliffe Kent, you will get some interesting links.

Please would you know what district or Parish the barracks would have been in?
Thank you

I have just checked Genuki registration districts for Kent but Shorncliffe does not appear on any of them.
I would imagine as Betty said there was an area known as Shorncliffe in Folkestone..... that would be my hunch.

There are, or were three barracks at Folkestone, known as Shorncliffe Camp.
Go to Google maps and put Shorncliffe Camp into the search box and you can view the map and or the satellite picture which will show you exactly where it is.

Hi
Shorncliffe is in the Folkestone district close to Cheriton and Sandgate.
The district for records will be ELHAM.

And you could actually be born IN the army camp,as my partners mother was in 1935 whilst her father was stationed there ;)
